An unexpected find caused a stir on the A 81 motorway near Böblingen today: a 250 kilogram bomb from the Second World War was discovered. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service plans to defuse this bomb this evening. The relevant preparations are already in full swing. Evacuation measures are being taken within a 400 meter radius of the site. Part of the Mercedes plant in Sindelfingen is also among the affected areas. Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports that the evacuation is up to should be completed by 10:30 p.m. at the latest.
The location where the bomb was found is between Böblingen and Sindelfingen, not exactly far from the densely built-up urban areas, but there is little residential development near the site. This means that only a handful of residents are directly affected by the evacuation. The affected areas particularly include buildings that are not used for vehicle production, as production can continue to run at the Mercedes factory. [SWR].
