Mayor's Football: Friendly game thrills in Hofstetten!

On July 22, 2025, an exciting friendly match between the national football teams of the mayors from Germany and Ukraine took place in the Waldsee Stadium in Hofstetten. The event attracted around 500 spectators and was described as excellently organized by those present. A real highlight for the region and a great occasion to celebrate the interaction and friendship between nations, like Schwarzwaelder Bote reported.

But that wasn't the only football event to make waves recently. Just a few days later, the mayors' national football team, the German mayors' national football team (DFNB), competes in the Alpine Cup in Forchheim. Teams of mayors from Slovenia, Austria and Italy as well as a team from South Tyrol will face each other there. Sebastian Schrempp, mayor of Rheinstetten and captain of the DFNB, recently told the press that the Italians are considered the most feared opponent. The tournament begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the match between Austria and Italy, followed by Germany against Slovenia at 11:33 a.m. The winner will be determined by the most points in all games, as bnn.de informs.

A team with heart

The German National Team of Mayors was founded in 2008 and has developed splendidly since then - the team currently has 50 members. In addition to the sporting competitions, the team has also taken on social responsibility by recently organizing a charity tournament for flood victims in the Ahr Valley, where over 250,000 euros were collected. In addition, the association is regularly involved in SOS Children's Villages. This initiative underlines how important the connection between sport and social responsibility is for the DFNB, as the DFNB website explains: dfnb-online.de.

Despite his physical limitations due to a herniated disc, Schrempp is determined to take part in the Alpine Cup. Football connects people, promotes joy and creates valuable contacts - that is the foundation on which the DFNB is built. A call for support, be it through visits or donations, is being made to all football fans.

A permanent place in the heart

The event in the Waldsee Stadium and the upcoming tournament in Forchheim are not only sporting highlights, but also an additional expression of the community and cohesion that football brings. The guests will be accommodated in the new Messehotel Rheinstetten, and on Saturday evening the participants can look forward to a visit to the Oktoberfest at the Harmonika Spielring Neuburgweier. All of these aspects make it clear: football is more than just a game, it is a firmly anchored piece of culture and interpersonal interaction.
