Drama in Bollschweil: Father kills daughter – police shoot!

These days, crime in Baden-Württemberg has once again caused a stir. The focus is particularly on a shocking incident in Bollschweil in which a 58-year-old man killed his daughter. The crime happened last weekend when the man broke into his ex-wife's house against her wishes. He locked out both his ex-wife and their son and took his daughter into his power. Police officers who looked through a window at the scene saw the man using violence against the daughter. A police officer then shot him, which further escalated the situation. The suspect should be brought before the magistrate in order to initiate further steps, according to Tagesschau.

But an incident is not only causing discussion in Bollschweil, a past shooting spree in March is also causing a stir in Mannheim. A man raced through the pedestrian zone and took two lives. The suspect, Alexander S., will be held responsible at the Mannheim Regional Court at the end of the month. In another case, a 50-year-old man is accused of having killed another man with 72 stab wounds. The public prosecutor suspects incompetence and demands that the defendant be placed in a psychiatric hospital.

Problems and solutions in the study landscape

Another pressing issue is the high rental prices in university towns. Many students have difficulty finding accommodation. An emergency shelter was therefore set up on the KIT premises in Karlsruhe to offer the first residents a safe place. This is happening in the context of the lecture period at many universities in Baden-Württemberg, which has now begun. This shows that the housing situation is tense in many places. The General Student Committee (AStA) reacted quickly to help those affected (SWR).

In addition, there are also political discussions about the rent cap, which is to be reregulated in Baden-Württemberg. This regulation states that for new rentals, the rent may not be more than ten percent above the local comparative rent. Unfortunately, there are efforts to abolish this regulation in some cities, which is being heavily debated by both the CDU and the Green parliamentary group. Rents remain a hot topic in many regions.
