Freiburg is blooming: 1000 daffodils are waiting for volunteers!

Things will soon be blooming again in Freiburg! On Sunday, November 9th, it’s time for young and old: “Get to the onions!” The Garden and civil engineering department has planned a lot in cooperation with the “Schlossbergrangern” and the “Freiburger Schlossberg Board of Trustees”. Around 1,000 daffodil bulbs are waiting to be planted in the ground - a wonderful sight that will provide a colorful play of colors next spring.

The hard-working helpers who would like to get involved in this planting campaign will meet at 10 a.m. at the water square, high up on the Schlossberg. Participants will be initiated into the art of planting by Philipp Anweiler, an experienced gardener. Weatherproof clothing and a hand shovel should not be missing so that the work in the earth really bears fruit!

A blooming castle mountain

Green space management in Freiburg is largely carried out by Garden and civil engineering department taken over. This not only ensures the maintenance of the numerous parks and playgrounds, but also takes care of the planning and maintenance of public spaces, including streets and sidewalks. This also includes efforts to protect against flooding and city lighting. The planting campaign on Schlossberg is a further step towards making the city green and livable.

By the way, the planting campaign is not the first of its kind. Similar initiatives have already taken place in recent years, where citizens came together to give their city a greener face. The 3,300 yellow wild daffodils that have already been brought in will contribute to next year's blooms and will delight all walkers and nature lovers.

An important part of this plant-based initiative is also the commitment of young people as part of a Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ). horticulture and work in landscape conservation. These dedicated helpers not only learn how to plant, fertilize and care for plants, but also actively participate in shaping and preserving nature. A valuable experience that not only benefits society, but also your own personality.
