Esslingen gets its first pump track: a play paradise for children!

A new chapter in leisure activities is opening in the heart of Esslingen: the city is getting its very first pump track in the Zell district, right next to the stadium. This innovative course, which is specially designed for smaller children up to primary school age, promises lots of fun and exercise. As the Esslinger newspaper reported, construction work will begin in July 2025 and the pump track will be built on an area of 300 square meters.

The course itself will consist of curves, waves and platforms, ideal for bikes, balance bikes and inline skates. It is important to the city that the facility is designed to be particularly child-friendly - it will be less high and demanding in order to meet the needs of younger users. Access to the pump track is via two entrances, which guarantees easy accessibility. The shell construction project will take approximately one and a half weeks, followed by asphalting of the roadway. The aim is to officially open after the lawn has grown, probably after the summer holidays.

Citizen engagement is taken seriously

What is particularly pleasing is that citizens were included in the planning process. Many suggestions regarding shading and seating options were made. The city is now considering how it can accommodate these requests, including by planting additional trees and creating seating. Overall, the costs for this exciting project are estimated at around 100,000 euros.

But the pump track is just one of many innovations that Esslingen has to offer. The city has made a name for itself with its numerous playgrounds throughout the city. From adventure playgrounds to water playgrounds with pumps to large themed worlds – the possibilities for children are almost limitless. In places like Tannenbergstrasse, Badstrasse or Esslinger Burg, children can let their imagination and their urge to move run wild. The overview is impressive:

The planning is designed to be child-friendly

Another important step in the development of play spaces in Esslingen is play planning. This takes place in three phases: First, an inventory survey is carried out in which children and young people present their informal play areas. This results in valuable insights into the better use of public space, such as: Page kinderfreunde-kommunen.de clarified. The identified potential is then evaluated before concrete measures are developed to further develop and create new scope.

These measures are intended not only to improve play and leisure activities, but also to take the safety of traffic routes into account. The adopted game plan will therefore have a binding effect on future urban development, making Esslingen an even more child-friendly place.

With these projects, Esslingen shows that there is a positive feeling for the needs of the youngest people here - and the city invites you to be part of these exciting developments.
