Jazz revival in Esslingen: New concerts attract the crowds!

Something is happening in the jazz scene in Esslingen! After the popular concert series in the Dulkhäusle was discontinued due to staff shortages in the catering industry and weather-related risks, the association is bringing live music to the city. The first concerts in the new format have now started and are well received.

The jazz concerts are currently taking place in the Komma youth center and in Café Lux, where the first three concerts have already been celebrated in a cozy, concert-like atmosphere. Even though the number of visitors from before, when the Dulkhäusle attracted up to 600 guests, is significantly lower - with around 120 visitors per event, the interest in the new formats is noticeable.

A new concept for jazz lovers

The organizers have come up with a lot of ideas to appeal to the audience. In addition to the free concerts, donations from guests are crucial for financing. The amount of donations is almost impressive: it is almost on a par with the income from previous concerts, although the number of visitors has dropped noticeably.

The upcoming events at Café Lux also promise exciting evenings. The series starts on June 26th, 2025 with the band Belle Vague and is planned until July 24th with further performances, including the finale with Four Gee.

A look into the future

For example, on October 30th, Kandace Springs will take the stage with the festival band. The ticket prices are affordable, as children up to 12 years of age also have free entry - a real highlight for families!

Jazz art and archive maintenance

Not far from Esslingen, the Darmstadt Jazz Institute has established itself as the largest public jazz archive in Europe. Not only does it offer an impressive collection of jazz documents, but it also serves as a venue for intimate concerts. Founded in 1990 and based in a baroque hunting lodge, the institute combines scientific discourse with practical activities and promotes the multicultural jazz scene.

At a time when the cultural landscape is hampered by various challenges, the new initiatives in Esslingen show that jazz has room for development and new things - not only in the city itself, but also beyond.

Stay tuned for the next events and enjoy the sounds of jazz with free admission, combined with a good willingness to donate!
