Poststrasse in Aichelberg becomes one-way street - safety for pedestrians!

Something is happening in Aichelberg: part of Poststraße is becoming a one-way street, and this is intended to increase safety for pedestrians. This decision, which is planned for autumn 2025, was unanimously requested by the local council and now depends on approval from the lower transport authority in the Esslingen district office. Stuttgart News reports that the one-way street is to be set up between Meisenweg and Ölschlägerweg.

The initiative for this measure came from the residents themselves. Mayor Andreas Jarolim announced that in a survey of around 110 Aichelberg households, over 60% of residents took part and 51.5% voted for the one-way street. Among residents directly affected, the figure was as high as 84.2%, while a previous survey from 2010 showed a clear majority against the measure. This shows that a rethink has taken place, which can also be attributed to the residents' initiative, which called for more security.

Keep an eye on the security situation

Statistics currently show that no accidents resulting in personal injury have been recorded on Poststrasse. Still, there are concerns from opponents of the one-way system, who fear an increase in the speed of cars, which could jeopardize the safety of pedestrians. An analysis of traffic safety shows that bicycle streets and one-way streets open to bicycle traffic are generally considered safe, but there is potential for optimization. The design of such streets should serve cyclists and through traffic should be prevented as much as possible.

As part of the planned measures, parking regulations on Schurwaldstrasse will also be a topic at the next local council meeting on June 30, 2025. It remains exciting to see whether the desired changes will lead to improvements in road safety.

Further information and developments

The topic of safety in road traffic remains highly topical. More and more municipalities are relying on measures such as one-way streets to better protect pedestrians and cyclists. Aichelberg could act as a role model if the planned changes are implemented. A text about road safety provides additional clues and recommendations for the design of streets and paths.
