The anticipation of the contemplative Christmas season is increasing in Freiburg, because the popular Freiburg Christmas market opens its doors on November 20, 2025 at 2 p.m. With a variety of stalls and a colorful program, the market will attract locals and visitors alike from November 20th to December 23rd.
The festive atmosphere extends across eight magical locations in the old town. These include the town hall square, the potato market, the Unterlindenplatz, the Franziskanerstrasse, the Turmstrasse, the Rotteckring, the Predigertor and, new since 2021, the Colombipark. This not only invites you to stroll, but also offers a photo point for unforgettable souvenir photos that capture your Christmas memories.
Opening times and special days
The market's opening hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. An exception is Dead Sunday on November 23rd, when the market remains closed. On the last day, December 23rd, visitors can once again enjoy the festive atmosphere from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and do their last shopping for the festival.
Stands and attractions
Another highlight is the visit from Santa Claus on December 6th at 5:00 p.m. on the town hall square, where the children will be surprised with gifts. From December 1st at 5:30 p.m., the popular words of light in St. Martin's Church will transform the evenings into a meditative Advent season.
