Galaxus creates 1,000 jobs: New logistics center in Neuenburg am Rhein!
There is a lot of construction going on in Neuenburg am Rhein: The Swiss mail order company Galaxus recently celebrated the topping-out ceremony for an impressive logistics hall combination. This is not only an architectural statement, but also a significant step towards creating up to 1,000 new jobs in the region. With a total area of 90,000 square meters, the new logistics center will be around twice as large as the Allianz Stadium in Munich. The first warehouse is scheduled to be put into operation in October 2025, while the second hall is planned for 2026 or 2027.
Neuenburg am Rhein, a small town with around 13,000 inhabitants, is located in a strategic position between Freiburg im Breisgau and Basel. This location enables fast delivery options to Switzerland, Germany and beyond. Michael Stolle, COO of Galaxus, emphasizes the importance of the new location as a response to the company's constant growth in both countries. “Neuchâtel not only offers ideal transport connections, but also great potential for recruiting specialist staff,” says Stolle.
New jobs in focus
Recruitment will begin in summer 2025 for the new jobs, which will be offered in areas such as logistics, facility management, HR generalists and system administration. The company plans to hire the first 50 employees by the end of 2025 and fill the full 1,000 jobs by 2030. Friedrich not only offers Galaxus a dynamic working environment, but also a future-proof, European working model. PCTip reports that the building permit for the second hall has already been received, but it is subject to certain species protection regulations.
Interestingly, the online giant Amazon is also thinking about a new logistics location in Germany, which could create around 2,000 jobs. Amazon already operates 15 logistics centers across Germany and has established itself as a key player in e-commerce. These two large companies, Galaxus and Amazon, are in competition for qualified personnel and market share.
The importance of the logistics industry
The logistics sector plays a crucial role in e-commerce and customers want to receive their goods as quickly as possible. Amazon has already largely met customer requirements thanks to its dense network and high levels of automation. Amz Marketing mentions that Amazon creates many new jobs and sets high standards in occupational safety and health management. The integration of severely disabled people and social projects are also part of the company's commitment.
The opening of the new Galaxus logistics center is also expected to have a positive impact on the regional economy. The project is not only a contribution to the creation of new jobs, but also a sign of the attractiveness of Neuchâtel as a location. The coming years will show how the logistics landscape in the region develops and whether Galaxus and Amazon can hold their own in the race for the best talent.
