Abitur 2025: dream grades and emotional farewell at Kant-Gymnasium!
Today the ceremonial farewell of the Kant-Gymnasium high school graduates took place at the Humboldt Hall in Weil am Rhein. The important day for the 70 graduates began with an ecumenical service in the Church of St. Peter and Paul. Headmaster Stefan Wiedenbauer opened the ceremony with his speech, followed by other speakers, including parents' councils and Mayor Lorenz Wehrle. Musically, the afternoon was accompanied by emotional performances such as “A Million Dreams” and Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe”, which touched everyone present. A vintage photo was also taken to capture this special moment.
In total, all 70 high school graduates passed, with a grade average of a solid 2.4. Two students were able to achieve the dream grade of 1.0: Frida Möllendorf and Christopher Hauk. Their achievements in particular were recognized with prizes. Christopher Hauk received awards in physics, chemistry and mathematics, as well as the Porsche Prize. Felix Rützel was honored for economics, Julia Lipinski received the Scheffel Prize for German, and Janis Vujic was delighted to receive the civics prize and the social prize. Frida Möllendorf was also honored for her special achievements in geography.
But other graduates also distinguished themselves: Anna Herold (1.6), Leonie Knabel (1.7), Marie Ostermann (1.7), Elezi Ron (1.8), Hugo Hardt (1.8), Charlotte Sickinger (1.8), Paul Schröder (1.9), Elena Bloy (1.9) and Theodor La (1.9) received praise for their grades below 2.0. This makes this year not only special, but also shows the high level of motivation of the students.
A special vintage
A comparison with other schools shows that it wasn't just the graduates from Weil am Rhein who shone. At the Bopparder Kant-Gymnasium, for example, four high school graduates graduated with a grade of 1.0. A total of 58 students received their certificates there, with an average of 2.3, the best result in over 20 years. The high school graduation took place under the motto “Abinauts – now we reach for the stars,” even though the celebrations had to be canceled due to the corona pandemic. This year was marked by challenging conditions, but the efforts paid off. [rhein-zeitung.de] reports that the oral examinations were able to be carried out despite the pandemic, which sheds a positive light on the current developments in the education system.
Abitur – the highest school qualification
In Germany, the Abitur is considered the highest school-leaving qualification and is a prerequisite for access to universities and equivalent colleges. In 2022, around 259,300 students nationwide graduated with this qualification. The high school graduation rate varies greatly between the federal states, with Hamburg taking the lead. However, the challenges posed by the corona pandemic have left an unmistakable mark, so that the failure rate is currently 4.6% - the highest value since at least 2010. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop in the coming years and what measures will be taken to further improve the educational opportunities for students. The numbers and the personal success stories behind these Abitur exams show that the young graduates are well prepared for their future. The teachers also played a special role in the final round by presenting the song “Days like these” by the “Toten Hosen” with an energetic performance. A lovely end to a truly unforgettable day.
