Talheim Fire Brigade Festival: fun, music and a 150-year tradition!

An exhilarating fire brigade festival in Talheim last weekend attracted numerous visitors and celebrated several highlights. This was not just a celebration around the fire station, but also the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the Talheim Volunteer Fire Department. This celebration featured lots of activities, music and delicious food and was a true celebration of community.

The festival opened on Saturday evening with a rousing performance by the Fortuna music association, conducted by Jörg Dold. During the opening, the atmosphere was already heated up and the spectators could look forward to an action-packed competition. Teams of five competed to transport water using a hand pump. The reward for the winners – the “Saufkultur Talheim” team – was a conical barrel with 30 liters of beer. Second place went to the “Halbstarken” followed by “Resles”. On Saturday, DJ Peaceman ensured that the party atmosphere lasted into the night.

Festivities and community

The following Sunday was all about social entertainment. By 11 a.m. the beer table sets were already filling up, serving cold beer as well as schnitzel and fries. Visits from surrounding fire departments enriched the festival, and the youth department of the fire department got involved by helping with serving and looking after the children on a bouncy castle. A demonstration exercise by the youth defense force, in which children were rescued from a burning playhouse, attracted numerous spectators and was followed enthusiastically.

In his speech, Mayor Martin Hall praised the fire department's hours of service and emphasized the importance of such institutions as citizens' initiatives. Ernst Heinemann, chairman of the district fire brigade association, conveyed his congratulations and presented a model of a historic fire engine as an anniversary gift. The Seitingen-Oberflacht band led the morning with a morning pint, while the Talheimer Wehr marching band provided a musical accompaniment to the coffee time.

Historical insights

A special highlight was the historical fire brigade exercise at 2 p.m. At a cordoned-off fire site at “Schmidplatz”, the commander explained the fire brigade regulations of 1868. The exercise, which was initiated with alarm bells, showed the impressive use of a tractor that brought the spray truck, as well as the demonstration of a hand-operated pump and the use of a bucket brigade. Viewers were visibly impressed by the effort that went into the former fire service.

After such a successful festival day, the firefighters and helpers were enthusiastic about the organization and the large number of visitors. Commander Thomas Irion was overwhelmed by the response and was pleased that the renovation of the festival hall was completed just in time for the anniversary celebration. The Talheim fire department not only celebrated its 150th anniversary with a festive, varied weekend, but also strengthened the community and cohesion of the population.

Black Forest messenger reports in detail about the event, while the Swabian newspaper underlines the historical significance. Spectators not only witnessed a successful celebration, but also the fire brigade's commitment, which has hardly lost any of its importance over the decades.
