Galaxus strikes: 1,000 jobs and huge logistics center in Neuchâtel!
There is a lot of construction going on in Neuenburg am Rhein! The Swiss mail order company Galaxus has just celebrated the topping-out ceremony for an impressive logistics facility that will not only boost the region's economy, but also set an example for the growing logistics sector in Germany. The new hall, which extends over a generous area of around 60,000 square meters, is part of a project that will include a total of 90,000 square meters of storage space. This means that the logistics center is similar in size to the largest in Wohlen, Switzerland. Mayor Jens Fondy-Langela described this settlement as the most important in Neuchâtel since the 1960s.
But what is behind this expansion? Galaxus is part of Digitec Galaxus AG, based in Zurich, and has set itself the goal of creating a significant number of up to 1,000 new jobs by 2030. The COO of Galaxus, Michael Stolle, sees the company as a future-proof employer and emphasizes that the first 50 employees will be hired this year. Recruitment will begin in summer 2025, and the first hall is scheduled to begin operations in October 2025. A second hall is planned for 2026 or 2027, but its construction is still subject to species protection.
Economic impulses for the region
Such projects are not only important for companies – they can transform entire regions. Due to its geographical location, the Neuenburg am Rhein location is ideal for ensuring fast deliveries to Switzerland, Germany and neighboring countries. This local infrastructure makes the city attractive for commuters from western South Baden and even those interested from Mulhouse, France, which is just 20 minutes away by car.
The relevance of the logistics industry in Germany should not be underestimated. With companies like UPS, FedEx and the DHL Group, Germany is the logistics country with the highest sales in Europe. According to the Logistics Performance Index, Germany is one of the leading logistics markets in the world. DB Cargo alone, as the largest European freight railway, and Deutsche Bahn, which works with DB Schenker and DB Cargo, underline the importance of this sector in the German economy.
A look at the competition
Galaxus' activities are no coincidence. The giant Amazon also plans to open a logistics center in Germany that will create an estimated 2,000 jobs. This race for skilled workers and innovative logistics solutions shows how important the sector has become to national economic success.
With these developments it is clear that the logistics sector is both a driver for jobs and economic stability in Germany. The construction of the logistics center in Neuchâtel is just one example of the trends in the industry, which bring with them ever-increasing requirements and opportunities. It seems that Galaxus is not only doing good business, but is also contributing to the positive development of the regional economy.
