FCH U19 creates history: First place in the DFB Cup quarter-finals!
On November 10, 2025, the U19s of 1. FC Heidenheim experienced a historic moment in the DFB Cup. The team won the round of 16 with a clear 5-0 win against FC Energie Cottbus, which meant they reached the quarter-finals, a first in the club's history. How fc-heidenheim.de reported, the most noticeable player of the game was Yannik Wagner, who hit the net three times (6th, 72nd, 89th minute). Tim Radöhl also delivered an excellent performance and scored two goals in the first half (18th, 43rd minute).
Right from the start of the game, the spectators saw a dangerous chance for Cottbus, but it was thwarted by FCH keeper Felix Mark. Heidenheim completely dominated the first half and went into the break 3-0. However, Cottbus did not give up and controlled the game somewhat after the change, but was unable to score a goal. On Wednesday, the U19s have their next competitive game in the WFV Cup against SSV Reutlingen, where they want to continue to prove their good skills.
Clear victory for the U17s
The FCH U17 also celebrated a victory on the same day. They won 2-0 against SpVgg Bayreuth. Striker Jan Failer opened the game with an early goal in the 1st minute, followed by Leon Fernandez in the 22nd minute. The youth team under coach Marc Schnatterer showed a strong defensive performance and intensive pressing phases, which led to the result. Despite further missed opportunities, they remained victorious and want to carry this momentum into the next game against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday.
DFB Cup at a glance
The DFB Cup, held since 1935, is an essential part of German football, organized by the German Football Association (DFB), which was founded in 1900. The DFB is not only the largest sports association in the world with over 8 million members, but is also responsible for most of the national football competitions, including the championship and the national junior cups, such as the current competition, which is now bringing the Heidenheim team to an exciting quarter-final.
The DFB Cup history speaks for itself: Last year, Werder Bremen secured the cup in the final against Karlsruher SC. A few years ago, in the 2022/2023 season, 1. FC Köln won a thrilling duel against FC Schalke 04, which captivated spectators throughout the entire season. The tradition and high status of the cup make it a highlight in the German football calendar.
With a victory for the U19s and a solid performance for the U17s, 1. FC Heidenheim shows that it is very popular in youth football. It remains to be seen what surprises await the teams.
