Important A6 motorway near Nuremberg: closure announced for weeks!

On July 1, 2025, the A6 motorway between Triebendorf and the Schwabach-West junction was closed to drivers. The reason for this is extensive asphalting work that will last until the end of August, although the exact end date has not yet been set. This construction work is part of a larger project to optimize traffic routing, which also includes expanding the A6 to six lanes in order to sustainably improve traffic flow. Loud Mercury The work has been underway for several months and will inevitably lead to restrictions for drivers traveling in the Nuremberg area.

As the Augsburger Allgemeine reported, the closures affect a section of around 12 kilometers between the Auergrundel and Schwabach-Süd junctions. Traffic in the direction of Nuremberg will be redirected, with drivers having to use the lane towards Heilbronn. On the Heilbronn side, traffic is routed over four lanes, with two leading in the direction of Nuremberg and two in the other direction. Speed limits of a maximum of 80 km/h also apply here.

Traffic forecasts and infrastructure development

These measures are in the context of a general increase in traffic in Bavaria. According to that Bavarian Ministry of Transport Passenger traffic is expected to increase by more than a quarter by 2030, while freight traffic is even expected to increase by 40 percent. This results in the need for a modern and safe transport infrastructure that should also be accessible to all citizens.

The Free State of Bavaria has already committed to maintaining the existing infrastructure and at the same time expanding it to meet needs. The expansion of state roads is controlled via the expansion plan, with accessibility also being a central concern of Bavarian transport policy.

Drivers who regularly use the A6 must be prepared for longer waiting times and diversions during this construction work. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop during the lockdown period and whether there will actually be delays. What is certain, however, is that these measures are an important step towards a sustainable transport infrastructure in Bavaria.
