Heilbronn Library: A fascinating place for young and old!
Heilbronn has had a real treasure in its city library since June 2024. After two years of renovation work, it now shines not only externally, but also in terms of its function as a social meeting place. Library director Doris Wolpert describes the new city library as a space that goes far beyond simple reading. With around 1,000 visitors a day, the library has already established itself as a popular destination. Tagesschau reports that this realignment also resulted in an award with the “Library of the Year 2025” award in Baden-Württemberg.
But what makes the city library so special? In addition to conventional books, it offers a variety of reading corners and retreats, including creative, house-shaped reading nests for the little guests. The musical area of the library includes not only a music room, but also electric pianos, creating a welcoming atmosphere to be creative. The library has everything so that you can enjoy spending time and taking advantage of the different offerings.
A space for everyone
The service that the city library provides for learners is also exciting. On the city library website You can find information about individual tables and table groups that are ideal for concentrated work. Laptops can be easily borrowed using an RFID ID card, and accessories such as over-ear headphones and charging cables are also on offer. If you like, you can get creative in the glass group rooms or experiment with digital media demonstration devices.
There is also a gaming zone for gaming enthusiasts, which is open on school days. The offering ranges from group rooms for adults, such as “Denkraum” and “Ideenschmiede”, to specific creative spaces for children and young people, such as “Lix-Hideout”. This variety of spaces not only promotes learning, but also creativity in the user community.
Planned projects and future initiatives
The prize money of 10,000 euros that the library won will be used to launch exciting new projects that will particularly benefit young visitors. Plans include, among other things, an activity area for children with games that promote the ability to move and concentrate, as well as creative wall designs in the children's corner. Film projects are also on the agenda, underscoring the library's commitment to the community.
The current reading trend is also supported by social media, especially platforms like TikTok. The popular hashtag “Booktok” creates a real book revival party, like Tagesschau highlights. In Germany alone we are talking about over 25 million books sold, which are being rediscovered through the exchange and enthusiasm shared on social media.
With a well-thought-out concept and a clear focus on networking and interaction, the Heilbronn City Library shows that it is much more than just a place for books. Community is lived and taught here, again and again – a true enrichment for the city.
