Digital library offers: Free training in BW on October 1st!

In Baden-Württemberg everything revolves around digital education! On October 1, 2025, library employees and interested parties can look forward to exciting training. The event entitled “Digital network offerings in Baden-Württemberg” will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and offers a great opportunity to get to know Brockhaus’s library offerings. A highlight will be the presentation by Ingrid Harke, an expert from NE GmbH | Brockhaus, which will introduce participants to online reference books and interactive courses. It will also provide information about innovations and licensing conditions of the Brockhaus Consortium Baden-Württemberg. This information is crucial for everyone who works in or is interested in the public library landscape, as rp.baden-wuerttemberg.de reports.

In addition to Ingrid Harke, Silvia Hocher from the Schwäbisch Hall City Library will also speak. She will share her experiences with the network offering in everyday library life, which should provide valuable insights into practice. The entire event is free and will be held via Webex - a convenient way to take part in the training from anywhere. If you are interested, you should hurry up because registration is possible until September 26, 2025, 6 p.m. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation via email and a link to participate via Webex. If you have any questions, the specialist office for public libraries at the Karlsruhe Regional Council is available and looks forward to numerous registrations!

Digital offerings for libraries

But what exactly does the offer include? The city library in Baden-Baden offers detailed information about Brockhaus' digital offerings, which support the growing demands for contemporary information transfer. Interested library employees and citizens can find further details about the available products and their possible uses at baden-baden.de.

Continuing education is not the only way for librarians to continue their education. If you are interested in further offers, you will find a central platform with daily training offers at vdb-online.org, which is operated by the Association of German Librarians (VDB) and the BIB (Professional Association for Information Libraries). Here, participants can search for the latest courses in a comprehensive calendar of events and prepare ideally for their professional future.

Insights into the future of library work

In addition, the VDB also offers special programs such as a mentoring program for young managers, which combines personal and professional support and intensifies the exchange between participants. This mentoring program is a great springboard for anyone who wants to network better in the library community.

Another notable project is “Library Carpentry.” This is a non-profit initiative that teaches library staff basic IT skills. The workshops, which have been held in Germany since 2018, include topics such as Unix Shell and Git - all essential tools in the digital world. The VDB has been actively involved in this community since 2019 and enables the development of a German-speaking community through trainer programs.

So be there and don't miss the chance to take part in the Brockhaus training program in Baden-Württemberg! The future of libraries lies in the digital preparation and communication of knowledge - and this training is a decisive step in the right direction!
