La Mela was one of 15 active citizens recognized for their courageous actions. These honorees ranged in age from 11 to 81 and collectively prevented eleven crimes, including assistance in difficult situations such as a thwarted theft by young Samba Sabally and a courageous 81-year-old lady who photographed a fraudster trying to deceive her with a shock phone call.
