Karlsruhe: Take action together to preserve the orchards!
The “Orchard Initiative in the City and District of Karlsruhe” shows once again how important it is to preserve our local orchards. On Friday, June 20th, the initiative invites you to a summer rift course in Karlsruhe-Grünwettersbach. From 5 p.m., interested orchard owners can expand their knowledge about fruit tree care in the Natur Bergdörfer network's orchard at Hatzengraben. The journey is simple: you drive from the town center towards Palmbach. For anyone who doesn't want to travel alone, carpooling is highly recommended. Those interested can also find directions on the orchard initiative's homepage. And the best part? Nobody has to register, just come along is the motto! If you have any questions, the initiative is available via email, which makes things even easier.
The commitment of the Orchard Initiative illustrates how important it is to actively work to preserve orchards. Since its founding, this initiative has not only set itself the goal of doing good for nature, but also promotes awareness of the responsible use of our natural resources. In this context, environmental education plays a central role. There are numerous programs that deal with the topics of climate protection and biodiversity and support interactive learning. This becomes clear, for example, in the concept of “Education for Sustainable Development” (ESD), which has been established in Germany since the 1990s and is now taken into account in many educational projects. Environmental education programs in orchards not only connect with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, but also enrich participants' experiences and promote skills such as planning, teamwork and critical thinking.
Social learning in the countryside
Another date that you should mark in your calendar is the fruit tree pruning course - summer tearing, which will be offered on June 28, 2024 in Karlsruhe-Hagsfeld. On this evening, interested orchard owners can learn how to properly care for and develop their trees. Here, too, participation is possible without registration, and directions are provided on the initiative's website. Anyone who would like to deepen their knowledge is very welcome!
The orchard initiative's programs not only create practical knowledge, but also strengthen the sense of community among the participants. It is important that we not only manage our orchards, but also value them as important ecosystems. Events like these make it very clear: the care and preservation of orchards is a shared responsibility. For anyone who would like to find out more about the initiative, the events and training offers are a great opportunity to get involved and become active. Further information can be found on the Streuobstinitiative page.
We invite all readers to become part of this great initiative and to contribute to the preservation of our orchards. In this way, we not only do something good for our environment, but also ensure that this important piece of nature is preserved for future generations. Ultimately, it is an investment in the future and in our own quality of life.
