PSK Lions sign Austrian Zac Owens: start to the new season!
The PSK Lions have significantly increased their squad for the coming season in the Second Basketball Bundesliga. The new point guard, Zac Owens, comes from Austria and brings a breath of fresh air to the team. Coach Demond Greene has a lot of confidence in the young player, who he describes as a responsible guard. Owens can act as both a ball handler and a scorer, which underlines the player's promising role. “There’s something there,” says Greene, “and we’re happy to have Zac on our team.” BNN reports.
With the signing of Owens, the Lions' roster now consists of six players. These include well-known names such as Captain Julian Albus, Maurice Pluskota and Melvin Jostmann. While the team is in the preparation phase, there are also changes in the coaching staff. Former coach Aleksandar Scepanovic, who was on the sidelines last season, will be assistant coach at Bundesliga club Mitteldeutsche BC next season. Scepanovic has a lot of experience, having worked as an assistant coach at MBC between 2017 and 2021 and for a short time as head coach. The official website of PSK Lions supplements this information.
Focus on promoting young talent
In addition to the personnel changes, the promotion of young basketball players is also a central issue. The youth check was launched to strengthen the development of young talent in professional sports. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga and the German Basketball Training Fund e.V. The aim is to specifically evaluate the clubs' youth work and to open up targeted funding opportunities. Interested clubs can now apply for funding to improve their structures and develop new approaches. The comprehensive planning is intended to eliminate bottlenecks and enable optimal talent development in basketball. Further information can be found here.
Overall, basketball is very popular in the region. The Speyer basketball boarding school, known for its successful youth work, is ranked among the best teams in Germany and is characterized by a strong squad in which many young players are represented. The passion for basketball is actively lived here, be it through the first team that plays in the BARMER 2nd Bundesliga ProB, or through the numerous young teams that are already ready to get involved in the top league. If you look at the development, it becomes clear: Great basketball continues to be offered, both in the region and beyond the city limits.
With this in mind, stay tuned and follow the PSK Lions and the developments in the youth sector. There is a lot to discover and experience in basketball, and the coming seasons promise to be exciting!
