Cabaret Prize 2025 in Freiburg: Stars of the stage honored!

On Tuesday evening, October 7th, 2025, the renowned Baden-Württemberg Cabaret Prize was awarded at the E-Werk in Freiburg. The night was one of glitz, wit and great performances as talented local artists came to the fore. The main prizes went to impressive personalities: Aurel Mertz, Doris Reichenauer and Timm Sigg were honored for their outstanding achievements, while the sponsorship prize was awarded to the Swabian songwriter Elena Seeger.

Aurel Mertz, the Stuttgart comedian, has been active on stage since 2017 and has made a name for himself primarily through his humorous and precise performances on social media. He has around 286,000 followers on Instagram and uses his reach to draw attention to global issues. The jury praised his ability to engage audiences both on social media and on stage and described him as a “smart performer”.

Doris Reichenauer, a talented cabaret artist from Gechingen, began her career at the Stuttgart dialect stage Stäffelesrutscher. She has been performing successfully as a solo artist since 2024 and delights her viewers with her distinctive humor and creative topics ranging from love to social life. Her wit and variability in content convinced the jury members and earned her the main prize.

Mathematics meets stagecraft

Timm Sigg, who combined mathematics and piano cabaret with his special performance, also received a main prize. The mathematics professor from Stuttgart brings together wordplay and music in an inimitable way. The judges were impressed by his ability to make mathematics fun and accessible, making him a crowd favorite.

Elena Seeger was awarded the sponsorship award. With her ballads and ironic-critical pieces, the singer-songwriter makes the audience smile and makes them think. Their music combines dialect, irony and tenderness and offers a special perspective on life in southwest Germany. Her open, curious nature embodies a fresh homage to her homeland.

Honorary award for deserving artists

A special focus was also on the honorary prize, which was awarded this year to Stephan Bauer from Dußlingen. Active on stage since 1992, Bauer has celebrated numerous sold-out shows. His themes, such as family and interpersonal relationships, strike a chord with the audience and humorously show the everyday challenges of life.

The main prizes are endowed with 5,000 euros, while the sponsorship prize was endowed with 2,000 euros. Half of this prize money comes from the state of Baden-Württemberg and Lotto Baden-Württemberg GmbH. At the award ceremony, State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun emphasized the essential role of the cabaret prize in promoting young artists and strengthening the cabaret scene in the region. The award winners were carefully selected by a team of eight jurors in order to honor the diversity of art in southwest Germany and to offer future talent a platform.

The Baden-Württemberg Cabaret Prize is more than just an award; it serves as a springboard for many artists who have enjoyed great success in the past, such as Bülent Ceylan, Florian Schroeder and Christoph Sieber. It is clear that these new award winners are also well on their way to leaving their mark on the cabaret scene.

Anyone who missed the gala has the opportunity to watch the highlights of the event in the stream on the SWR website. The diversity and quality of the cultural scene in Baden-Württemberg will continue to be celebrated here.
