FC Ingolstadt: Start of the second half of the season against Regensburg – fight for the points!
It finally starts again for FC Ingolstadt 04 on January 16th at 7:00 p.m. The third division second half of the season starts with an exciting duel against SSV Jahn Regensburg, a real Danube derby that the fans in the Audi Sportpark can hardly wait for. Managing director Dietmar Beiersdorfer shares some thoughts in advance about the season so far, the new additions and the challenges that lie ahead of the team. In an interview with FC Ingolstadt he explains that the winter preparation has already shown positive progress, including through test games against FC Augsburg and SV Ried.
“The games not only showed our capabilities, but also areas in which we still need to make adjustments,” said the managing director. The main focus is on efficiency in the offensive area, as the team often simply conceded too many goals in the first half of the season. Beiersdorfer recently took on the role of sports director and is now closer to the coaching team and squad planning, which enables him to set the course for a successful second half of the season.
New additions for the second half of the season
To strengthen the squad, FC Ingolstadt has signed two new players: Giorgios Antzoulas, a central defender who is strong in the air, and Mason Toye, who is known for his speed. “We will continue to expand the offensive area and increase the squad width,” emphasizes Beiersdorfer. These reinforcements should help the team to deliver a better performance in the second half of the season and to achieve the desired goal of catching up with the midfield.
In the first game of the second half of the season against Regensburg, we are counting on a courageous and active performance due to the increased expectations. “We want to win and continue the positive trend,” is the team’s clear statement.
Current challenges and outlook
After the majority of the third division clubs voted to continue the season, FC Ingolstadt is also faced with external challenges. In a reporting by the Süddeutsche Zeitung it is said that during a crisis conference ten clubs voted for ghost games, while others called for an immediate suspension of the season. The DFB supports the continuation, but sees a clear need for action to represent all clubs in the best possible way during this uncertain time.
Back on the pitch, Sabrina Wittmann's team, Ingolstadt's coach, will also be cautiously optimistic and experience a year of change and growth. She explains the philosophy of coaching and says that it is a challenge to continually improve both individual and collective performance. A despicable chapter was the injury to David Klein, who was injured in the friendly and is now in the rehab process after an operation. His absence is a painful loss for the team.
For the Danube derby against Jahn Regensburg, fans are hoping for a game that brings back the “frozen moments” of football. Indeed, supporters could witness a rousing exchange of blows on January 16th. And while the team gives everything on the pitch, the unwavering support will be heard from the stands. FC Ingolstadt wants to score points and is ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
