Plachta celebrates 750 games: Eagle legend stays until 2026!
There is good news from the Adler Mannheim ice hockey scene: Matthias Plachta, the club's record player, recently extended his contract early until 2026. This means that the 33-year-old striker, who has played for the Adler for 15 years, will remain with the fans and the club. Plachta proudly wears the Adler jersey and has established himself as a top performer.
The Mannheim native has scored the most goals, assists and points of all Adler players in the PENNY DEL. With his 750th game for the Adler and in the DEL, Plachta has reached another milestone. With exceptional club loyalty and passion for ice hockey, he has become a true identification figure for the Adler's supporters.
Plachta: A life's work with the Eagles
Plachta has been active with the Eagles since the 2009/10 season, with a short break for a one-year guest appearance in North America. During his time in Mannheim, he not only won two German championships, but also took part in numerous international tournaments such as the European Trophy, the Champions Hockey League and the Spengler Cup. He was also part of the German national team that won the Olympic silver medal.
Adler managing director Matthias Binder highlights Plachta's development and commitment. “His talent, coupled with his loyalty to the club, makes him an indispensable part of our team,” says Binder. Head coach Dallas Eakins also appreciates Plachta for his ability to create chances and his valuable experience in the team.
The change of the Adler Mannheim
Last season didn't quite go according to plan for the Eagles, as they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the play-offs against Eisbären Berlin and finished the season in seventh place. For the coming season, which begins on September 20th with a home game against the Schwenninger Wild Wings and ends on March 7th, 2025, the club's goal is to win the ninth German championship, which has been pending since 2019.
In addition to Plachta, there are also changes in the squad: Maximilian Eisenmenger is leaving the Adler after his contract was terminated prematurely. He played 41 games and scored ten points. In contrast, Yannick Proske, a newcomer from Iserlohn, will stay with the Adler for another season. He scored three goals and seven assists in 44 games last season.
This transition period is about more than just results for the Eagles; it's also about looking into the future and realigning the team. In this exciting ice hockey year, it will be exciting to see what the Adler Mannheim will achieve when they step back on the ice. The fans can look forward to exciting games and hopefully a successful season.
