Tensions and controversial decisions characterize the last meetings of the social committee in the Ostalb district. Most recently, an increase in the subsidy for the AIDS-Hilfe Schwäbisch Gmünd from 11,700 to 95,700 euros was rejected. Among other things, the plan was to create a full-time position with costs of 84,000 euros per year in order to provide professional support to self-help groups and carry out school-based prevention work.

Despite the rejection, District Administrator Bläse signals that the conversation can continue. The district's social budget, which amounts to 206 million euros, sees the protection of people in crisis situations as an important point. The financial improvements from the state and federal government called for by Bernhard Richter (SPD) and Christoph Hald (CDU) could be decisive in this regard.

HIV and social responsibility

While politicians in the Ostalb district are concerned with financial resources, the situation surrounding HIV and AIDS remains an urgent global issue.
