Missing in Spraitbach: Tobias M. – clues urgently sought!

Today, July 9th, 2025, there is worrying news from Spraitbach: 31-year-old Tobias M. has been missing since Tuesday, July 8th. The young man left his home address around 1 p.m. on Tuesday and has been urgently wanted since then.

The authorities suspect that Tobias M. is in a helpless situation. He is 167 cm tall, slim and has dark blonde, short hair. It is believed that he may be carrying a Haibike brand e-bike in black/dark gray. The police have already published a search call and are asking the public for support. Witnesses or people who can provide information about his whereabouts are asked to contact Aalen police headquarters on 07361 5800. Further information and photographs can be found on the police website.

The focus is on safe rides on e-bikes

E-bikes are now widespread, and unfortunately they are also associated with an increasing number of accidents. As the blog Elektrofahrrad24 reports, the number of accidents involving Pedelecs has increased fivefold since 2014. In 2023, around 23,900 accidents involving e-bikes were registered. This makes it clear that riding e-bikes, despite their popularity, is not without risk.

The accident statistics show that 188 people died in Pedelec accidents in the same year, while there were only 39 deaths in 2014. In contrast, the numbers for conventional bicycles have fallen significantly in recent years; In 2023, 256 deaths were reported, a decrease of more than 28% compared to 2014. One reason for the increase in Pedelec accidents could be the increased popularity of e-bikes in Germany. 15.5% of households owned an e-bike in 2022, compared to just 3.4% in 2014.

With the trend towards e-bikes, there is also a falling average age of Pedelec riders; 31.2% of Pedelec riders who had an accident in 2023 were under 45 years old, while in 2014 over 54% of riders were 65 years old or older. This could be a sign that younger people are increasingly enjoying the benefits of e-mobility.

The police and the community therefore urgently appeal to all e-bike users to ride safely and be careful. So they hope that Tobias M. will be found quickly and safely.
