Hotel Rebgarten in Ravensburg is finally closing after 30 years!
Shock for the hotel industry in Ravensburg: The Hotel Rebgarten must close permanently on November 1, 2025. After more than 30 years in business, Rebgarten Betriebs und Immobilien GmbH has filed for bankruptcy. Insolvency administrator Michael Wahl from Pluta Rechtsanwalts GmbH confirmed this information and reported on the drastic situation of the employees, as all nine employees were given notice of termination. Swabian newspaper According to him, the insolvency and over-indebtedness were decisive for this step.
The rising operating costs for the hotel, which has 30 rooms and 62 beds, have become unsustainable in recent months. While costs rose, utilization fell dramatically. Numerous short-term cancellations were particularly stressful and sales fell short of expectations. Although hotel operations continued after the bankruptcy filing in August 2025, this did not lead to stabilization. Wahl had hoped to sell the hotel to a new operator, but no interested parties were found. Swabian newspaper reports that this was due, among other things, to non-consensual rental agreement terms.
Current developments and cancellations
The situation for Hotel Rebgarten will continue to be worrying in the coming months. The current booking status shows extremely low occupancy, which also resulted in the cancellation of around 100 bookings for November and December. Informed guests who had not paid deposits will be released from their predicament without any financial loss. However, this development is not an isolated case in Ravensburg: In recent months, several companies have filed for bankruptcy, including Foto Bantle and the restaurant Rigg's Burger & Grill. Swabian newspaper documents that bankruptcies in the region have increased overall by 41.5 percent compared to the previous year.
Why is this happening now? Experts attribute the high number of corporate bankruptcies to bad business decisions and external problems such as high energy prices, bureaucracy and rising wages. In addition, competition and price pressure is growing at an international level, making work more difficult for many companies. It is also warned that fewer investors are willing to support companies looking to restructure under the current conditions. The closure of the Hotel Rebgarten is symptomatic of an overall tense economic situation in the region.
A look into the future
What comes after the Hotel Rebgarten? In the past, Rebgarten GmbH had also operated the Waldhorn apartment hotel, which was opened by a new operator in August 2025 as Hotel twelve87. It remains to be seen whether further investment will be made in the hotel industry in Ravensburg to reverse this worrying trend. Swabian newspaper concludes that the situation for the hotel and catering industry in the region remains challenging.
The coming months will be crucial in determining whether Ravensburg and the surrounding area are able to learn from this crisis and position themselves better in the future. One can only hope that creative ideas and willingness to invest are ready to revitalize the industry.
