Wrestling duel ends dramatically: RKG Reilingen/Hockenheim narrowly defeated!

In an exciting duel in the 2nd Wrestling Bundesliga, RKG Reilingen/Hockenheim met KG Baienfurt/Ravensburg last Saturday. The game ended with a narrow 12:18 for the guests. The outcome of the fight was only decided in the final individual decision and provided the necessary thrill that the spectators expected. This means that the RKG remains in search of points before their next derby against KSV Ketsch on November 1st at 7:30 p.m.

The match started evenly: both teams were leading 8:8 at halftime. Alexandru Chirtoaca defeated Veaceslav Mamulat 4-0 in the freestyle, while Simeon Stankovich defeated Jan Zirn 3-0 as a heavy opponent (130 kg, Greco-Roman). However, this was only the start of a showdown in which the quality of the RKG was vehemently demonstrated. Michael Merk, sports manager of KG Baienfurt/Ravensburg, praised the Reilinger's performance and emphasized that, despite currently being in fifth place and only having three points to its name, the team can boast strong performers such as Denis Kudla, bronze medalist from the Olympic Games. Swabian reports that Kudla is very strong in his weight class (86 kg, Greco-Roman).

A clash of the best fighters

Even if some fights for the RKG did not end as desired, there were also outstanding successes such as that of Maxim Fricatel, who defeated Danny Mayr early 15-0. This constellation showed that wrestling not only requires fighting spirit, but also tactical skills and technique. Loud Wrestling100 Fans can look forward to many exciting duels, not only now, but also in the coming months, as the wrestling championships in Germany are coming up in June and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The next matches in the 2nd Bundesliga also have special significance for the RKG. Coach Dariusz Jelen firmly believes in his team's chance and rates the probability of a win against KSV Ketsch at 55 to 45. This confidence is reflected in the motivated line-up, in which Richard Schröder and Luis Greif will also play an important role as young talents. The meeting between Greif, the German U20 champion in the 75 kg Greco-Roman, and Valeriu Toderean promises to be particularly exciting.

Wrestling, one of the oldest and most traditional martial arts, also has an eventful history in Germany. There have been team wrestling championships since 1922. Even today, clubs are trying to increase the number of members, which has unfortunately shrunk in recent years. As was recently announced, the German Wrestling Association had around 62,000 members in 2022 - the lowest number since at least 2002. The development shows how important it is to keep wrestling attractive as a sport. Wrestling100 points out that wrestling has been an Olympic discipline since 1896 and that women have also had the opportunity to show their skills on the international stage since 2004.

The coming challenge for the RKG Reilingen/Hockenheim will be the opportunity to evaluate the general conditions and team performance and, based on this, to motivate again! The derby against KSV Ketsch will be the next step on the way to success in the league.
