Traditional company Störk in Bad Saulgau is finally hiring!

In the tranquil town of Bad Saulgau, Störk Metall Processing GmbH is providing sad news: the traditional company has to close its business operations. Founded in 1928, the company has played an important role in the region for over 95 years. However, insolvency proceedings, which were opened on July 10, 2025, ultimately led to the closure of the company at the end of October 2025. There have been significant personnel changes over the last few months. Of the original 48 employees at the start of the insolvency proceedings, only 25 employees remained when operations finally ceased. By then, many employees had already found new jobs, with around half leaving the company voluntarily to take on new challenges.

The provisional insolvency administrator, Michael Wahl from the law firm PLUTA, found that despite efforts to approach around 175 potential investors, no suitable solution could be found. This made it significantly more difficult to continue operations. Key employees in production and sales moved away, making continued existence impossible. The salaries of the remaining employees were covered by insolvency benefits for three months, which for some represented at least a little financial stability during the difficult times.

Causes and backgrounds

The development in Bad Saulgau is another example of the challenges that many traditional companies in Germany face. Problems often arise not only from economic difficulties, but also from the migration of skilled workers who are looking for better prospects in other companies. This devastating development not only impacts employees, but also the local economy as a whole. Clearance operations will now be unavoidable, and the silence that has descended on the Störk metal processing halls following the closure is a sign of the changes the region is experiencing.

The company's closure is also a wake-up call for other businesses that may have similar risks in their structure and management. It is becoming clear more than ever how important it is to react to changes in the market and to position the company for the future. At a time when skilled workers and key personnel are in high demand, talent management is crucial.

A moment of reflection

This sad news from Bad Saulgau allows us to think. What remains of a company when employees leave and the doors close? The stories of employees, their experiences and their knowledge are what create the true value of a company. The end of Störk Metalworking is not only the end of an era for the company itself, but also a loss for the community that relied on this support. A red light is flashing not only in Bad Saulgau, but also in other cities that are observing such developments. It is now up to others to learn the lessons from this situation and actively shape changes.

The question remains how many more traditional companies will suffer similar fates before a rethink sets in and new ways are found to save the companies and secure the valuable experience and knowledge of their employees.
