Alarming increase in sexual violence against women in the Rems-Murr district!
In recent years, the frequency of sexual violence against women in the Rems-Murr district has reached alarming proportions. Compared to previous years, statistics show that the proportion of women affected is much higher than initially assumed. These alarming developments include various forms of violence, ranging from lewd comments to very serious cases such as killings, which have been recorded in the Rems-Murr district almost every year since 2017. In some years there have even been a shocking number of two killings, highlighting the need to take preventive measures to protect women. There are also calls for more specific measures to be developed to work with violent men in order to sustainably improve the situation, explains zvw.de.
The problem of sexualized violence is not only limited to the Rems-Murr district, but is a nationwide phenomenon. Current reports from the Federal Criminal Police Office show a significant increase in crimes against women and girls in Germany. In particular, prejudice-driven crimes against women rose by 56.3% in 2023. 98.9% of the suspects in rape and sexual assault were men. Domestic violence also shows worrying figures: 180,715 female victims were registered in 2023, an increase of 5.6% compared to the previous year. The increase in femicides is also particularly alarming, with 938 homicides against women, which is nine more than in the previous year, as the BKA announced in a recent report bka.de.
Prevention initiatives and offers of help
Some upcoming events are already planned for October 21st and 28th, 2025, and it is important that those interested register in good time. This is the only way to create a network that resolutely addresses the issue of sexual violence and further advances educational work.
The challenges in combating violence against women are diverse and require collective efforts. If we implement joint prevention strategies and support offers, we have the opportunity to bring about lasting positive changes.
