Finally! Permanent toilets in sight on the B29 in Remshalden
Mobile toilet facilities were tested in the Rems-Murr district to improve sanitation along the B29 - an interim solution with a future.

Finally! Permanent toilets in sight on the B29 in Remshalden
The roads between Stuttgart and Aalen have a new companion: mobile toilet facilities make the main traffic flow a little more pleasant. In September 2023, these practical solutions were installed at the parking lots in Remshalden and Weinstadt. Since then, they have been in use for almost two years - significantly longer than originally planned, because the first three months have now developed into a more extensive test operation. That's what he reports ZVW.
Why so long? The reason is delays due to ambiguities between the responsibilities of the state and federal ministries of transport. Nevertheless, there is a ray of hope: a solution for the two rest areas near Plüderhausen is on the horizon, as it is said.
A step in the right direction
The federal highway 29 should not be underestimated - as a busy west-east connection, it not only attracts everyday traffic, but also a lot of heavy goods traffic. In an area where there was previously a lack of sanitary facilities, the need quickly became clear. That's why the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the road construction department of the Rems-Murr district, initiated a test operation and set up mobile toilets in the Hebsack and Endersbach car parks. There are a total of six toilet facilities - three in each direction, which are almost completely new in order to meet the increasing demand for toilet facilities in public spaces.
Particularly noteworthy is the barrier-free toilet, which is equipped with illuminated systems and hand cleaning dispensers. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann hopes that this initiative will lead to a permanent solution. Similar models are already in use in other districts, which shows that there is a willingness to improve the infrastructure.
Digital feedback for a sustainable solution
In order to assess the acceptance of the new toilets, the test operation is accompanied by a digital survey that is accessible via a QR code. In this way, users can share their experiences and contribute to optimizing the offer. The time after the three months could be crucial - this is where new plans for an expansion concept will be coordinated with the responsible Federal Ministry of Transport.
Overall, there is a growing need for mobile solutions that go beyond the simple offering. Providers like SANI offer both temporary toilet containers and permanent solutions that are individually tailored to the needs of the user. With more toilets and barrier-free facilities, even more comfort could be offered in the future if the planning is harmoniously integrated into the surroundings. A good deal for anyone who travels a lot and doesn't want to miss out on sanitary facilities!
The development clearly shows that there is something going on in the Rems-Murr district. With a combination of mobile and permanent solutions, transport policy in the region could soon be expanded to include a bit more humanity.
