Memories and competition: HSG Konstanz meets the Lions!

On Saturday evening, HSG Konstanz expects an exciting clash with the leaders of the 3rd League South, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. Jo Knipp, HSG backcourt player, is particularly excited: “I’m looking forward to seeing old colleagues again,” he says. Knipp himself spent three years at the Lions' handball boarding school and has many fond memories of the traditional club's yellow jerseys. In the next game he will face Jan Kraft and the Karrenbauer brothers, who still play for the Lions. HSG right winger Veit Schafmann has also already left his mark on the Lions.

The Rhein-Neckar Lions have presented themselves well this season. With four wins, one draw and just one defeat, they currently lead the table and also have the best goal difference of all teams. Jo Knipp describes the Lions' players as "super trained" and believes that they want to recommend themselves for higher tasks. The game promises a lot of excitement, especially because HSG is also aiming for a home win in order to get past the Lions and secure important points.

Concentration is required

After the away game in Schwetzingen, HSG Konstanz is faced with a mixed season. Knipp emphasizes the importance of maintaining concentration throughout the entire 60 minutes. “We have to put pressure on the opponent early and take them into the hall,” explains the backcourt player. The team has often not been able to meet these demands in previous games, which is reflected in their inconsistency in the game.

Knipp will be particularly challenged on Saturday. He, who played for the Lions from 2016 to 2019, knows their strengths and weaknesses. “It will be important that we go into the game with fight, will and passion,” he demands. The HSG has to give everything to annoy the Lions and win at home. And with a bit of luck, the feat of defeating the lions and retaining the important points in the Upper Swabian town of Constance could be achieved.

Handball needs research

Another topic that goes hand in hand with sport is scientific support for handball development. The German Handball Federation (DHB) is continually looking for scientific input in order to meet the requirements of the sport. The focus is on close networking between sports practice and science in order to answer relevant questions promptly. The introduction of the DHB Research Profile 2.0 shows how important the relationship between theory and practice is in order to find solutions to problems in handball sports. This could also benefit teams like HSG Konstanz, who rely on talent like Knipp, and broaden their sporting horizons.

HSG Konstanz not only faces the challenge of asserting itself against a strong Lions team, but also plays in a league that is constantly evolving and setting the course for the future of handball. Spectators and players can look forward to a thrilling duel.
