RCR dominates Heusenstamm: 40:7 victory with players in need!

Yesterday the Rugby Club Rottweil (RCR) played triumphantly against RK Heusenstamm (RKH) and achieved a clear 40:7 victory. As NRWZ reports, the game had to be stopped after around 60 minutes because the Heusenstammers did not have enough players available. The game took place in front of 200 spectators and brought exciting moments, although the interruptions due to minor injuries clearly affected the momentum.

In the first half, the RCR impressively showed its superiority and scored two tries through Valentino Vlees and Tyler van Vollenhoven. The lead at halftime was 12:7. RKH could only respond with a try in their first powerful attack. The referee's decision to abandon the game was made in consultation with his linesmen, as the number of players fell below the required standard following an injury to another Heusenstammer.

A look at the game statistics

If we look at the statistics of the game, it is clear that RCR showed their fighting spirit. In the second period, Johannes Husselmann, Rui da Silva, Teswin Jacobs and William Mohlaloga contributed further tries, and Robert Carr was able to raise four times, which ultimately led to the final score of 40:7. The first chairman of the RCR, Karl-Heinz Bahr, praised his team for their performance, but made it clear that improvements in teamwork were necessary.

  • Erste Halbzeit: RCR 12 – 7 RKH
  • Versuche: Vlees, van Vollenhoven (RCR), Versuch RKH
  • Zweite Halbzeit: RCR erzielt 28 Punkte; Carr erhöht viermal
  • Endergebnis: 40 – 7 für RCR

A further point can be made about general safety in rugby. Rugby is a full-contact sport and has a higher injury rate than football, as DW describes. According to World Rugby's chief medical officer, Dr. Martin Raftery, concussions are a common type of injury, especially at the professional level. While in football there are around 20-25 injuries per 1000 playing hours, in rugby this number is 40-50.

The essence of the game of rugby

Originally developed in England in the first half of the 19th century, rugby union – also known as fifteen-a-side rugby – is enjoying growing popularity. As Wikipedia explains, two teams of 15 players each play on a rectangular field and the game lasts 80 minutes. The aim of the game is to get the oval ball to the opponent's end in order to score points.

Rugby combines not only skill and teamwork, but also tactics and physical fitness. It is practiced in both the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga as well as in regional and association leagues in Germany. RCR is well positioned and will play against SU Neckarsulm next Saturday. The lineup shows promising talent and experienced players.

In summary, Rugby Club Rottweil starts a promising season with this victory, although there is still room for improvement. The feedback from spectators and the passionate performances of the players promise exciting games in the future.
