Viennese choir girls inspire with a big concert in Rottweil!
A very special event will be celebrated in Rottweil on June 18, 2025. The Vienna Choir Girls, the famous female counterpart to the Vienna Boys' Choir, undertook an impressive five-week concert tour and were now on the stage of the Theresienkirche in Trossingen. This trip took them through cities such as Dresden, Berlin and Würzburg and culminated in a joint concert with the local girls' choir.
The event was a truly festive experience that began with the song “Grow little tree” by Andrea Ramsy. The two choirs, led by Stefan Foidl and Andreas Puttkammer, brought the church to life with their voices. In addition to classics by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Franz Schubert, Henry Purcell and Fanny Hensel, the Rottweiler Girls Choir sang works by Francis Poulenc and contemporary bands such as Simon and Garfunkel and Radiohead in the second part of the concert. The highlight of the evening was certainly the joint conclusion with Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's “Lift your eyes up” and another performance of “Grow little tree”, which perfectly rounded off the canon of performances.
A celebration of music and community
The concert series was not only a musical performance, but also an opportunity for the young singers to exchange ideas and learn from each other. As part of their stay in Rottweil, there were also joint rehearsals and an informative tour of the city, which promoted exchange and community among the choirs. This commitment to cultural education and networking is important not only for the choir girls, but also for the entire region.
The planned return of the Rottweiler Choir Girls to Vienna shows the lasting connection that exists between the ensembles. Here is that too Network of girls' choirs worth mentioning, which was founded in 2015 on the initiative of the Basel Girls' Choir. This network is dedicated to the exchange and mutual support of choir commissions and brings together over 30 choirs from German-speaking countries. With the motto “Stronger together”, the network works to ensure equal musical education for girls and young women.
The role of girls' choirs in culture
But it's not just the Viennese choir girls who inspire with their singing. The girls' choir at the Eberhardskirche in Stuttgart, which was founded in 1994, also plays a central role in the cultural life of their city. With 150 singers and a concert team of 33 girls, it represents another example of the lively choral culture. Through their planned exchange activities with the Vienna Girls' Choir, they promote understanding and love of music.
The events that take place as part of the “Vienna Choir Girls and Friends” series are continually enriched by various girls' choirs from cities such as Dresden, Berlin, Regensburg, Basel and Rottweil. These concerts are not only enriching for the participants, but also for the audience, who can enjoy a wide range of musical styles and talents.
This makes it clear: music connects, creates networks and enables an exchange that goes beyond national borders. The concert of the Vienna Choir Girls in Rottweil was a shining example of this and impressed with long-lasting applause from the audience, which honored the passion and commitment of the young singers.
