Zimmern inspires: Senior work thrives thanks to dedicated helpers!
A look at the senior citizen work in Zimmern shows that very special commitments are made to older citizens here. On November 2, 2025, the board and committee of the Rottweil District Senior Citizens' Council visited this colorful community to get an idea of the exemplary senior work. Anja Schaber, who has now been working as a full-time senior representative in Zimmern for two and a half years, presented with great passion the successful projects and activities that enrich the seniors in her community.
There is a lot on offer for the age group in the rooms. “In communities with representatives for senior citizens, the offerings are literally blossoming,” says Schaber. She receives support from dedicated volunteers who together enable a wide range of activities. These include Café Fazz, game afternoons and exciting excursions organized by Ute Waldraff. But that's not all, because Claudia Irion and Anja Schaber also offer the popular fall prevention course “Fit in Old Age”. A total of three courses will be held on this important topic in order to give the seniors the best possible strength.
Diverse funding opportunities and a committed team
Schaber also highlighted the various funding opportunities that can support the expansion of senior work. However, a major obstacle remains the lack of full-time employees, which often leads to lost funding. Rainer Pfaller, chairman of the district seniors' council, celebrated the outstanding work in Zimmern and spoke of a “unique model”. Schaber herself emphasizes the importance of her fellow volunteers, without whom many things would not be possible.
Not to be forgotten is the unique repair café, where Uwe Mutschler is a dedicated helper. Here, seniors can have their broken items repaired or take part in clothing swap parties and plant swaps. Schaber also purchased Veeh harps through the Leader funding program, which promotes musical education for seniors. Course participants have already been able to present concerts in Dunningen, Sulgen and Zimmer, which not only strengthens the sense of community but also brings a lot of joy.
A collaborative effort by admired people
The enthusiasm and creativity that Anja Schaber invests in her work was unreservedly praised by the group leaders. Through her commitment, she was able to take senior citizen work in rooms to a new level. The members of the district senior council present agreed: The work in Zimmern deserves the highest recognition and is a great example of how senior work can be made lively in communities.
Whether communal activities, creative courses or just a place to relax, rooms make it not only easy but also enjoyable for aging people to enjoy life to the fullest. The responsibility taken on in this community could certainly serve as a model for other communities. With so much commitment and passion, one can only say: Senior work is very important here - and that is something that definitely deserves more attention!
