Black Forest ham conquers Wacken: enjoyment for 85,000 festival visitors!
What's going on in the world of heavy metal and culinary enjoyment? A very special highlight awaits visitors to the Wacken Festival in Schleswig-Holstein: the protection association of the Black Forest ham producers is putting everything on one card and is sending a large truck full of Black Forest ham directly to the festival site at the end of July 2025. From July 30th to August 2nd, over 85,000 international music fans will not only enjoy first-class heavy metal, but also get to know the fine delicacies from the Black Forest. Black Forest messenger reports that the protection association will represent the Black Forest ham brand in the farmers market during the festival.
Here you can look forward to a colorful selection: In addition to the classic self-service ham slices and cubes, whole pieces of ham are also offered. But that's not all! A real delicacy is the “Wacken-Wecken”, which comes thickly topped with Black Forest ham and three unusual ingredients. This special sandwich combines culinary tradition with a touch of festival flair.
Tradition meets modern culture of enjoyment
Black Forest ham, a real traditional product from the Black Forest, bears the abbreviation PGI. (protected geographical indication) since 1997. This means that it can only be produced in the Black Forest. The production follows strict traditional processes: the ham is rubbed by hand with a mixture of salt and spices such as bay leaf, coriander, pepper and juniper from the hind leg of the pig, then it is smoked over fir and spruce wood for weeks. Good enjoyment explains that the ham is low in fat and rich in vitamins and minerals, making it a healthy choice.
But the protection association is not only responsible for marketing. Founded in 1989, it also ensures that the manufacturing process and quality of Black Forest ham are protected and preserved. Every year, the association's members produce around 5.5 million Black Forest hams, thereby contributing to the region's culinary diversity. The association is also an official partner of the audience award “kuckuck 25”, which honors particularly committed restaurateurs and producers of traditional cuisine in the Black Forest.
A look into the future
But the Wacken Festival is more than just an event for music lovers; It will be a meeting place for culinary explorers and Black Forest ham lovers. At the festival site, visitors can expect a unique experience where the world of heavy metal and traditional German cuisine meet. Fleischnet emphasizes that the event is not only a meeting of tastes, but also serves to introduce younger people to the ham tradition and to carry it forward.
The Wacken Festival will not only be a mecca for music fans, but also a place where tradition and innovation come together - in the truest sense of the word! Don't miss out on the Black Forest ham at one of Germany's most important festivals!
