A shocking incident shakes the small community of Leibertingen in Baden-Württemberg. 22-year-old Tobias K. is accused of having committed attempted murder and serious arson on the night of October 23rd. Loud Swabian Tobias K. used Molotov cocktails to set a car and two neighbors' houses on fire. Particularly frightening: the affected family, who lived in one of the houses with two children, slept unaware during the attack.
An alert neighbor noticed the burning car and immediately alerted the emergency services. But the situation escalated further when Tobias K. threw another Molotov cocktail at the arriving firefighters and police officers. The bottle exploded right in front of them, which is seen as a clear indication of intent to kill. The suspect was arrested the day after the incident, and during a search of his room, investigators found several pieces of evidence that pointed to his involvement in the crime.
Intricacies and motives
The suspect's background is particularly explosive: the son of a politician, who himself grew up in an environment that opposed certain political trends. A slogan directed against the AfD was stuck to the windows of his room. At the crime scene, investigators discovered graffiti with writings associated with the “Antifascist Action”. In this context, the connection of the affected houses to the AfD becomes clear - one of the neighbors is a party member, the other is a former district chairman of the party.
The State Protection Center of the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation because there is suspicion of a crime motivated by left-wing extremism. Historically, the increase in left-wing extremist crimes is alarming: According to the current Office for the Protection of the Constitution, this number rose last year by almost 38 percent to 5,857 cases, of which around 11,200 are considered violent Young freedom reported.
