Renovation offensive in Laupheim: 23.8 million euros for the city center!
In Laupheim the air is full of new beginnings and change! The city administration is planning major renovation measures in the city center to bring the city's infrastructure into shape. According to a report by Schwäbische.de The work in the “Inner City III” renewal area is intended to continue the ongoing renovations in the “Judenberg/Inner City II” region, which will be completed in 2023. A sophisticated development concept, which was developed together with LBBW Immobilien Kommunalentwicklung GmbH, is behind the planned measures.
From the new town hall to König-Wilhelm-Straße to the castle park and the surrounding area - a total of 23.8 million euros are planned for the upgrading of various urban buildings and squares. In order for the renovation to get underway, an application for the new area will be submitted to the RP Tübingen and the Ministry for Regional Development by October 6, 2025. Baden-Württemberg will provide an impressive 235 million euros in funding for urban development in 2024 - a good opportunity to support the planned projects.
Financial support on multiple levels
The federal government's urban development funding has proven itself for over 50 years and forms a backbone for strengthening inner cities and town centers. How bmwsb.bund.de explains, a total of 790 million euros are available for these funding programs in the 2025 federal budget. The goal is clear: eliminate urban development problems and improve the quality of life in the communities. The funding rate in Laupheim could be 60 percent of the renovation costs, which would mean around 14.3 million euros in public funds.
The calculation of the housing requirement in Laupheim shows that around 1,043 new apartments will be needed by 2040. The potential for internal development is also interesting, covering around 11.5 hectares in the core city. In addition, around 16.4 hectares are available for new projects in other parts of the city. But not everything is going like clockwork: the local council is already discussing whether the planned 23.8 million euros will be enough for the renovation.
New ideas for the city center
Another example of creative approaches in urban development is the “Future Inner City” program. Municipalities can implement creative usage concepts for vacant properties and public spaces. Up to 300,000 euros per project are available, which shows how important innovative ideas are in urban development. Loud sustainable-urban-development-hessen.de 41 cities and municipalities were recently selected to realize these projects and redesign urban space. The combination of trade, social offerings and cultural exchange could also be a promising route for Laupheim.
Now it remains to be seen how the plans will be fleshed out and whether citizens can contribute their ideas. One thing is certain: there are exciting times ahead in Laupheim!
