Primachor supports women farmers in Uganda with a donation of 300 euros!

Last weekend the prima choir presented a donation of 300 euros to the organization “Women for Women”. This sum comes from the proceeds of the annual concert entitled “Spirit of Africa”, which took place recently. At the handover, which took place in person, the managing director of “Women for Women”, Christina Schreiber, was visibly pleased with the financial support. The choir's first chairwoman Sarah Bieligmeyer and second chairwoman Carolin Dreher emphasized that it was important to them to support a good cause with the income from their performances.

The donation is not just a symbolic act, but is intended to specifically help improve the lives of women farmers in Uganda. In particular, this will support Ms. Stellah Onyanko, a widow with seven children, who can use the money to buy a cow. This will be of great importance for the food security of your family. Women for Women works to improve the lives of women in Africa, which is crucial in a country like Uganda. Many women live in precarious conditions here, and food security is a critical challenge, especially in rural areas.

A step towards a better future

Welthungerhilfe's “Grow Together” project aims to empower women in Uganda through educational workshops in various topic areas such as violence against women, menstruation, hygiene and sexual health. The aim of these workshops is to promote dialogue and enable equal coexistence. Particular emphasis is placed on discussing contraception and family planning, which is a sensitive issue in many rural communities. The initiative supports around 3,000 women to make them more economically active and independent.

In a region where gender equality is still a contentious social issue, it is clear that legal advances often do not keep pace with reality. While important international texts on equality were adopted in the 20th century, the challenges in Africa are often shaped by historical, cultural and legal frameworks. The influence of colonialism and various legal systems has had a major impact on the status of women and continues to pose significant hurdles to this day.

Legal framework and social reality

The reality of women's rights in Africa is often characterized by a constant struggle for recognition and implementation. Under international agreements, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women of 1979, states are obliged to guarantee women equal rights to those of men. Nevertheless, it is clear that many legal advances are not fully applied.

Particular challenges lie in the implementation of the enacted laws and the provision of sufficient resources for their enforcement. Nevertheless, initiatives like “Women for Women” and their supporters are extremely important in giving women like Stellah Onyanko a voice and accompanying them on their way to a self-determined, fair future.

The Primachor's next performance will be on August 13, 2025 at the Primtalsommer, where they want to show once again that singing not only brings joy, but can also make a lasting difference in the lives of other people.
