Ulm goes down 5-0 in Verl – a shock defeat for the team!

The duel between SC Verl and SSV Ulm 1846 on October 25, 2025 was a real thriller - but not for the Ulm team. With a clear 0:5 Verl prevailed on the 12th matchday of the 3rd league and remains on the road to success. SWR reports that SC Verl now occupies third place in the table, while Ulm, after a dismal performance, remains in a disappointing 16th place.

The game began with a bitter setback for Ulm in the 14th minute: Berkan Taz used an assist from Alessio Besio to make it 1-0 for Verl. The defensive stability that Ulm had hoped for left a lot to be desired. The 2-0 came shortly before half-time thanks to Besio himself, who added in the 35th minute. Ulm was simply not able to shine offensively, and shortly afterwards the first half ended with a sobering 0:2 for the guests from Ulm.

A dominant loss

The second half didn't start any better for Ulm. Timur Gayret extended the lead to 3-0 in the 61st minute. While the Ulm team tried to fight against their superiority, the attacking game remained weak. Verl showed his best side and Dennis Waidner made it 4-0 in the 73rd minute. Yari Otto finally put the end of a one-sided game with a goal in the 76th minute – the final score was 5-0.

By ultimate standards, the Ulm team's performance was unacceptable. “We just didn’t have the right performance,” muttered a frustrated player after the final whistle. Especially in the last 15 minutes, the Ulm team showed a weak performance that did not give them any courage for the coming games. On the other hand, SC Verl continued to be the dominant team in the second half and gave the guests little chance of coming back. Wessig also received a yellow card from Verl in stoppage time for a foul, which underlined the sparse severity of the game.

The look forward

It will now be crucial for SSV Ulm to initiate a turnaround against VfB Stuttgart II on November 1st in order to escape the specter of relegation. After six defeats this season, the pressure is enormous and fans are hoping for a positive reaction. Coach Glasbrenner is required to bring a breath of fresh air into his team and make up for lost points as quickly as possible. Looking at the last defeat, one thing is clear: Ulm has to improve in order not to slip further down the table.

In the meantime, there is also news from the other game of the day: VfB Stuttgart II lost late against Jahn Regensburg when Eric Hottmann scored the decisive goal in the 96th minute to make it 3-2. It remains exciting in the league and the coming games could bring many surprises.
