Schwyzertag in Tiengen: tradition, culture and big celebrations!
There is great excitement in Tiengen because the traditional Schwyzertag takes place from June 4th to 7th. On July 3rd at 5 p.m. at the town hall there will be a vernissage for the Tiengen schools' art competition. “The festival promises a colorful program for young and old,” say the organizers, who are already looking forward to numerous visitors. The town of Tiengen, with a rich history since it became a town in the 13th century, offers the perfect setting for this festive event. The roots of Schwyzertag go back to 1415 and commemorate the successful outcome of a city siege. Loud South Courier The festival is organized by the Citizens' Guild 1503 Tiengen and the Schwyzertag Committee, which aims to combine tradition and modern festival culture.
The highlight of the festivities will be celebrated with the traditional tapping of the barrel by Mayor Martin Gruner on Friday at 6 p.m. on the market square. The “Original Storchenturm Musicians” provide the musical accompaniment to the event. The program for this Friday also includes an over-30 party with DJ Dirk, which starts at 7:30 p.m., and a classical concert in the city parish church at 8 p.m. So there is already a lot planned for the first evening.
A variety of activities and performances
There will be a lot of hustle and bustle in Tiengen's pedestrian zone throughout the weekend. Music, clowns, a circus and a children's program are planned here, which will captivate not only locals but also visitors from the French twin town of Lewes. On Saturday at 10 a.m. there will be a community drink with the Jugendstadtmusik at the Josefsbrunnen, and other highlights include the performances in the Klettgau Museum and an artist talk in the Schwarzenberg Halls in Tiengen Castle. How tiengen.de reports, DJ B-Sito will charmingly moderate the program at the market square on all days.
The Saturday evening highlights begin with the performance of Latschari music from Rheinfelden and a local evening in the castle garden, where the citizens' guild and the town music present traditional performances. Federal Minister Thorsten Frei is also expected to be a guest of honor and keynote speaker. The local evening ends with an impressive guard call and a torchlight procession to the market square. Sunday starts festively with playing the alphorn, shooting firecrackers and a church service in the parish church.
Tradition and community
The big parade on Sunday afternoon moves through the streets of Tiengen with over 20 historical groups and offers an impressive panorama of regional history and culture. The musicians will show their skills on the stage at the market square from 6 p.m., before the day ends with a Viennese evening at 8 p.m.
On Monday, the last day of Schwyzertag, the school will be the center of attention with student performances and the award ceremony for the art competition from 10 a.m. From 5 p.m. the festival will be fittingly concluded with a concert by the town music.
Schwyzertag is more than just a celebration, it is a platform that strengthens community and conveys values. It also reflects the cultural diversity that is celebrated in Germany and which is closely linked to regional identity. This is reflected not only in the variety of offerings, but also in the recent tradition that most events are free, although support through the purchase of festival plaques is welcome.
