Bavarian craftsmen conquer gold: Triumph at EuroSkills 2025!
In a spectacular year for German crafts, we have reason to celebrate: Moritz Wagner from Weißenhorn performed brilliantly at the EuroSkills 2025 in Herning, Denmark. As part of the German team, the talented cabinetmaker won the gold medal, securing 765 out of 800 points. This means that Germany has become European champion in the field of building and furniture carpentry, as BM Online reports.
EuroSkills took place from September 9th to 13th, 2025 and attracted over 100,000 spectators. 597 participants from 32 countries competed against each other in 38 disciplines. Moritz wasn't the only winner in the German team, as Lutz König from Leutershausen also impressed as a carpenter and also won gold. Both participants not only demonstrated their talent, but also excellent preparation. It is particularly worth mentioning that 16 medals in 28 skills were achieved for Germany, including 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze, as handwerk.com describes in detail.
National competitions and local talent
But a lot is also happening at home: the German Craft Skills championships are coming up. This year, 62 young craftsmen and women from Bavarian Swabia will be competing in the atrium of the Swabian Chamber of Crafts in Augsburg. Among them are three chamber winners from the district: Annika Bestele (painter and varnisher), Maximilian Kügle (metal worker) and Vitus Brandmair (carpenter) - they all have the chance to qualify for the federal competition, like [Augsburger General](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/aichach/aichach-friedberg-drei-kammersieger-aus-dem-landkreis-bei-der-deutschen-meister-im-handwerk-111776878) reports.
President Hans-Peter Rauch of the HWK Schwaben honored the great talents of the chamber winners and emphasized how important discipline and passion are in the craft. The first three places will be rewarded with vouchers worth 9,135 euros each for further training of their choice, which is certainly an additional motivation for the participants.
Honors for exceptional achievements
Special recognition also goes to Oliver Wetzenbacher from Südstahl in Mertingen, who was awarded the Silver Badge of Honor for his company's third chamber victory. In addition, Josef Leberle, training manager of the Northern Swabian Construction Guild, received the Golden Master Certificate and leads the coaching team of the German national team of reinforced concrete builders. This also recognizes the good performance of the national team, which won the bronze medal at the EuroSkills in Denmark.
Overall, craftsmanship is well represented not only in Germany but also internationally and enjoys a high status. EuroSkills 2027 will be held in Düsseldorf and Luxembourg and promises to celebrate the tenth anniversary of an exciting competition.
