Heating with solar power: This is how your home becomes energy self-sufficient!
At a time when independence from rising energy costs is at the top of the agenda for many households, there are new ways to provide yourself with the help of solar power. The event “Heating with solar power – using photovoltaics efficiently” will take place on October 27, 2025 as part of an online lecture. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., those interested can find out everything about using self-generated solar power for household electricity and heating. The focus here is on increasing self-consumption and independence from energy costs, as lra-aic-fdb.de reports.
This lecture, organized by the Aichach-Friedberg district and the city of Augsburg, is part of the LEADER-funded “Solar Offensive Wittelsbacher Land” project. If you would like to take part, you should register in advance so as not to miss out on a place.
Technical options for more independence
How exactly is solar power used in heating technology? The market now offers many technical options that enable close communication between photovoltaic systems and heat pump heating systems. Many heat pump manufacturers rely on the same principle: the “SG Ready input” enables the heat pump to react to excess solar power. In this way, efficiency can be significantly increased, as energie-Experten.org explains.
A well-planned system consisting of a photovoltaic system and a heat pump can both reduce energy costs and reduce dependence on large electricity suppliers. Such a combination is particularly useful in single-family homes, which can already cover 20 to 30 percent of their annual electricity requirements by installing a PV system. Anyone who also installs battery storage can even increase this share to up to 40 percent, according to the voices from the Consumer Center.
Cost estimate and funding options
However, the investment costs for a complete system consisting of a heat pump and PV system are between 25,000 and 50,000 euros. Not small amounts, but the long-term savings from reduced energy costs can justify the investment. Funding programs can also help to reduce costs. A typical PV system costs between 9,000 and 20,000 euros, while heat pumps cost between 15,000 and 40,000 euros, making them a worthwhile investment.
Additionally, it should be noted that despite all efforts, complete self-sufficiency is usually difficult to achieve, especially in the winter months when less solar power is produced. However, well-insulated buildings can contribute to higher self-consumption and thus greater independence.
The importance of the self-consumption rate should not be underestimated. Ideally, this proportion should not be less than 30 percent of the amount generated by the PV system in order to ensure the economic viability of the system. Anyone who has questions about the dimensioning of their systems or needs advice on funding can find support at the consumer advice center.
In summary, anyone who looks into the possibilities of solar power and, if necessary, invests in suitable systems can not only ease the burden on their wallet, but also make an important contribution to climate protection.
