On Monday, January 12th, a tragic accident occurred on the R 11 district road near Beratzhausen in the Regensburg district. A woman was hit by a car around 5 a.m. and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled after the incident, leaving the community shaken. The deceased woman came from the Altötting district, as pnp.de reports.
The Upper Palatinate police have now published new investigation results and hope to catch the fugitive driver with the support of the public. There are still many unanswered questions about the exact circumstances of the accident and the search for the driver remains in full swing. There is something in the air because such incidents always attract great attention and concern in the region.

Despite this issue, the goals of the EU transport ministers are ambitious: there should be no more traffic deaths by 2050 - a project that puts “Vision Zero” on the agenda. However, there is still a lot to do on the way there, as traffic deaths in Germany fell from 19,193 in 1970 to 2,770 in 2024, which represents significant progress, but can still be improved.

In view of these figures and the tragedy in Beratzhausen, we once again realize how important education and better infrastructure are. Only through increased awareness among road users and perhaps through the introduction of autonomous vehicles could these worrying statistics be improved.
