Amberg-Sulzbach district: Future-oriented energy usage plan in progress!

A lot is happening in the area of energy supply in the Amberg-Sulzbach district. A comprehensive energy usage plan is currently being launched that aims to ensure a sustainable and future-oriented energy supply. The initiative, which is being carried out in collaboration with the city of Amberg, has the potential to make the district a pioneer in Bavaria, as nn.de reports.

The restructuring of the energy supply is already in full swing, and over 50% of the district's electricity needs are now covered by renewable energies. The heat supply should also be sustainably redesigned by 2028. This requires the expertise of OTH Amberg-Weiden, which will support the district in drawing up the plan. Further details were presented at a meeting of the district committee, at which District Administrator Richard Reisinger (CSU) emphasized the close coordination between the district and the city in order to use synergies and avoid uncoordinated expansion projects that could significantly increase storage requirements mittelbayerische.de.

Energy supply in transition

The energy usage plan will also provide a strategic basis for decisions during the energy transition. OTH Professor Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch, who is known as the head of the Combined Heat and Power Competence Center, emphasizes the great potential of photovoltaic systems and wind power in the district. Optimistic forecasts indicate that the necessary kilowatt hours can be generated in balance by 2040. But the challenge remains: energy production must coincide with actual demand. This is where innovative solutions for storing renewable energy such as batteries and hydrogen come into play.

E-mobility also contributes to the dynamics of development, which represents an opportunity for the district to continue to grow and develop. Mayor Bernhard Lindner (CSU) of Hahnbach calls for thinking beyond municipal boundaries in order to make optimal use of energy supply options. At the district committee meeting, a proposal to budget 200,000 euros for the energy usage plan in the next budget was also unanimously recommended, with funding of around 70% expected.

On the way to the energy transition

The ambitious plans of the Amberg-Sulzbach district are taking hold of the energy transition that is progressing throughout Germany. According to the Umweltbundesamt, the share of renewable energies in gross final energy consumption in Germany was 22.4% in 2024, which means an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous year. With the target of covering 41% of total consumption with renewable energies by 2030, it is important that the Amberg-Sulzbach district also contributes its part to this national task.

Overall, the signs point to innovation and commitment in the district, which has long positioned itself as a pioneer in Bavaria. Citizens can look forward to a sustainable and future-proof energy supply.
