Natural Garden Initiative: Nine new plaques in the Amberg-Sulzbach district!

A green signal has been sent in the Amberg-Sulzbach district: nine garden owners were recently awarded the coveted “Natural Garden – Bavaria is Blooming” plaque. The ceremonial award ceremony took place in Gudrun Rupprecht's picturesque garden in Auerbach, where District Administrator Richard Reisinger (CSU) described the initiative as a “success story”. The award has been around since 2021 and is becoming increasingly popular - a total of 61 plaques have been awarded so far, and today nine more gardens shone with this seal of quality.

The award-winning gardens are spread across the entire district and each of these “natural paradises” meets strict criteria. No chemical-synthetic fertilizers or pesticides may be used, nor may peat. Ecological diversity plays a central role in this. In each of these gardens, nature is not only valued but actively encouraged. The goal is to improve the habitat for animals and plants and thus give nature more space.

The distinguished ones

The new badge holders include:

  • Charlotte und Christian Altmann, Leinberg
  • Kathrin Altmann, Sulzbach-Rosenberg
  • Maria Beer, Obersdorf
  • Birgit Eitner, Kirchenreinbach
  • Gabriele und Alfred Herteis, Rothaar
  • Petra und Reinhold Kohl, Atzmannsricht
  • Elisabeth Rauch, Hammerberg
  • Gudrun Rupprecht, Auerbach
  • Karin Wolfram, Michelfeld (für zwei Gärten)

District advisor Michaela Kopp encouraged the award-winning garden owners to continue their gardening efforts and to form a network of natural gardens in the district. This should not only contribute to an exchange between natural gardeners, but also inspire other hobby gardeners.

A trend for the region

The lively participation in the natural garden initiative reflects a general trend: more and more gardens in the region are being transformed into green oases. Richard Reisinger, first chairman of the Amberg-Sulzbach district association for garden culture and land conservation, emphasizes how important such gardens are for awareness of sustainable garden care. The awarding of the plaque not only honors the garden owners, but also the idea behind this initiative.

The initiative not only benefits nature. Interested garden owners have the opportunity to register for natural garden certification. Michaela Basler and Markus Fuchs, the district advisors for horticulture, are available to offer support and information. Through this exchange, the network could grow further and the idea of the natural garden could be anchored even more broadly among the population.

Overall, the initiative shows that the Amberg-Sulzbach district is not just about gardening more beautifully, but also making an active contribution to environmental protection. The trend towards more ecological thinking and action is constantly increasing, and that is good news for nature!
