35 new medical assistants: Amberg celebrates successful graduates!

The Amberg vocational school was happy about a special occasion: 35 students successfully completed their training to become medical assistants (MFA). This was celebrated with a festive closing ceremony in the auditorium of the school center, led by Dr. Roland Vogl, senior physician and board member of the Amberg-Sulzbach District Medical Association, was opened. He referred to the Latin saying “Non scholae, sed vitae discimus,” which means that you learn not just for school, but for life. Training is crucial for a stable healthcare system - especially in view of the current global political challenges, as the senior physician noted. [Mittelbayerische] reports that Dr. During his speech, Vogl also highlighted the diverse career paths that MFA education offers, including access to medical studies.

In his speech, Martin Wurdack, the headmaster of the BSZ Amberg, highlighted future challenges facing the healthcare system, in particular the shortage of general practitioners and the necessary hospital reform. However, the career prospects for the newly minted MFAs look promising. “Our region offers excellent professional opportunities,” added Second Mayor Martin Preuß, who conveyed the congratulations on behalf of the mayor.

The tasks of the medical assistants

Medical assistants are the first point of contact for patients in healthcare facilities. Your tasks are varied and range from receiving patients to administrative tasks. This includes:

  • Empfang und Datenaufnahme von Patienten
  • Durchführung von Laborarbeiten
  • Assistenz bei Behandlungen, einschließlich Blutabnahme und Verbandswechsel
  • Terminplanung und Abrechnung
  • Patienteninformation und Beratung zu Vorsorgemöglichkeiten

The MFA training usually lasts three years and is dual, i.e. both in vocational school and in practical training in doctors' offices or other medical facilities. A secondary school leaving certificate is required, as is proof of health suitability.

Career opportunities and future outlook

The career prospects for newly graduated MFAs are promising. After taking on the job, they can continue their training in specific areas, for example as a specialist in outpatient medical care or a business economist in the healthcare sector. The demand for MFAs in Germany is high and will continue to increase due to demographic change. Many of the graduates have already achieved the school and chamber best in the summer of 2025 and were honored with a special gift from the medical district association at the end. For example, Elena Bauer, Naomi Bodendörfer and Katharina Golutvin were honored.

The musical accompaniment of the celebration was enriched by the talented Paulina Strebel (bassoon) and Simon Aringer (double bass), which gave the event a festive setting. The profession of medical assistant is therefore not only future-proof, but also offers numerous development opportunities, both in the medical and administrative areas.
