The football scene in the region is currently characterized by intense games and exciting duels. The fans of the District League North were not disappointed on the last matchday, even if the results caused mixed feelings.
FC Amberghad to be content with a 1-1 draw in the home game against Sportfreunde Upo. Despite winning points, Amberg remains at the top of the table, but only scored a meager point against its rivals. “We were lucky with the point,” said Roman Reinhardt, the sporting director of FC Amberg. He also emphasized that the team is unbeaten in 13 games but wants to attack again in the new year.
On the other hand, Andreas Scheler, coach of Sportfreunde Upo, applauded his team for their performance, but criticized the lack of efficiency in front of the goal. “We have to make better use of the opportunities,” said Scheler. His perspective could serve as a driving force for the upcoming games.
An exciting derby
Another highlight of the matchday was the city derby between theSpVgg SV Weiden IIand thatFC Weiden-Ost. This encounter ended with a 2-0 win for Weiden II, thanks to two goals from player-coach Josef Rodler. With this win, Weiden II's gap to Amberg is now four points. Philipp Siegert, coach of FC Weiden-Ost, was anything but satisfied. “We were the better team,” was the frustration after the game.
The derby was characterized by an abundance of penalty decisions: all goals were scored from penalties, which caused some controversy. In the 10th minute, Johannes Rodler scored the first penalty for Weiden II, followed by Noah Forster, who equalized four minutes later. A controversial penalty then led to Florian Reich's opening goal for Weiden II before half-time.
Things got turbulent again in the second half when Benjamin Werner from Weiden II received a yellow-red card and Noah Forster scored the 2-2 equalizer for Weiden-Ost. The heated scenes led to a fair division of points and an exciting ending.
