Gerda Amberg wants to take on responsibility in the Unterentfelden local council!
Things are currently heating up in Unterentfelden because the local council elections are just around the corner and the FDP has nominated a new face in Gerda Amberg. Amberg was officially presented as a candidate at the party's early summer event, which took place on June 23, 2025 at the Dutoit Gallery. Not only is she new to the race, but she also brings a lot of experience and commitment to the community. Six people are applying for the five vacant local council seats, while the previous members Lilian Däster (FDP) and Marion Fischer (GLP) will no longer be running. In addition to Amberg, Gianluca Sorrentino (SP) and Yasmin Dätwyler (SVP) will also be vying for the votes from Lower Entfeld. According to aargauerzeitung.ch, Gerda Amberg moved to Unterentfelden 25 years ago for love and is the mother of four children, including Gemini.
The 52-year-old has had a remarkable career in the village. Her involvement began in Catholic home group classes and later led her to the district school board. As a former home economics and gymnastics teacher, she has a good feel for the needs in the educational sector, which she believes is crucial for the future of Unterentfelden. Amberg emphasizes the importance of a well-run school and the creation of diverse jobs in the village. “I found the Unterentfelden primary school to function well,” she says, as she shares her vision of an even more livable place for young and old. Safety issues, especially for children and seniors, are particularly important to her as she has noticed changes in the nighttime safety situation.
A strong team for the future
The FDP Unterentfelden is counting on a strong team that wants to face the challenges of local politics. In addition to Amberg, Guido Scherer, an experienced local councilor who is running for deputy office, will also be in the race. During his previous engagement, Scherer was able, among other things, to renew the heating network and advance strategic internal development. These successes, together with Amberg's initiatives, should serve to further increase the quality of life in Unterentfelden, according to the fdp-unterentfelden.ch.
Gerda Amberg was also heavily involved in the social sector. She was significantly involved in supporting refugees from Ukraine and thus brings additional know-how to community politics. Her role as a trained adult educator and her experience in management at association level make her a versatile candidate who wants to enrich political events in Unterentfelden with fresh ideas.
Progress for women in local politics
Despite the ambitious goals and committed women like Gerda Amberg, a recent study on the topic of women in local politics shows that there is still a lot of work to be done. In Austria, out of 2,093 municipalities, only 220 are female mayors, which corresponds to 10.5%. In Switzerland, too, the proportion of women in municipal offices is estimated at 20%, as can be read on kommunal.at. The lack of female representatives is hindered, among other things, by social prejudices, role models and the challenge of balancing family and work.
Gerda Amberg shows that it is possible to gain a foothold in a male-dominated environment and emphasizes the need to continue the legacy of strong women on the local council. By actively engaging with her community, she not only makes changes in politics, but can also serve as a role model for other women.
The coming elections promise to be exciting, and with candidates like Gerda Amberg the course has been set for a more diverse political landscape in Unterentfelden. It remains to be seen how the citizens will decide and what new impulses the community can expect in the future.
