Big celebration for the inauguration of the renovated Herrieder Tor in Ansbach
There will be a very special event in Ansbach on June 30, 2025: the ceremonial inauguration of the Herrieder Tor, which has been renovated for several years, is on the program. The ceremony takes place as part of the annual Rococo Festival, which recreates the life and culture of the 18th century and attracts large numbers of visitors each year. Mayor Thomas Deffner and Margrave Carl Wilhelm Friedrich will inaugurate the historic gate together and look forward to inviting the public to this festive event. From 3 p.m. you can be there and experience the entire event live. After the gate is ceremoniously opened at 3:30 p.m., Dr. Frank Simons, head of the building construction and building regulations office, gave a lecture on the extensive renovation measures that were carried out with a lot of dedication. Those interested can also look forward to guided tours of the tower, which are offered from 4 p.m. without registration being necessary.
The Herrieder Tor, which has existed in its current form for more than 250 years and was built in 1733 on the orders of the “wild margrave”, has developed into one of Ansbach's landmarks. At 47 meters high, it is a striking element in the city's landscape and even houses a carillon that sounds daily at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The renovation work has helped preserve the splendor of this historic structure for future generations.
A supporting program in a class of its own
The Rococo Festival begins on the Thursday after the inauguration with further highlights. A special concert entitled “In the Light of Infinity” will take place on June 28, 2025 at St. Johannis Church at 9 p.m. The entry prices for this are 36 euros regular and 28 euros reduced. If you would like to immerse yourself in the historical flair, you should not miss the traditional casino evening on July 4th, 2025 in the Orangery. This will be about historical games, although entry is only possible with a letter of credit instead of real money. The incentive is great, with prizes starting at 75 euros, and there is also a lot of fun to be had in this event. To round off the events, the “Fürstliche Gartenlust” event will take place in the Hofgarten on July 6, 2025, which promises a great family experience and even makes entry free for appropriately dressed visitors.
Ansbach – a city full of history
The fourth largest city in Middle Franconia, Ansbach, has a history spanning over 1,250 years, during which time it was once the residence of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach. In addition to the Herrieder Tor, there are also many other sights in Ansbach, such as the margrave's residence, whose last major construction phase took place in the 18th century and which today shines in its rococo style. Inside, visitors can expect 27 state rooms, which are open every hour for tours. The Hofgarten, a typical French baroque garden with an orangery, invites you to take relaxing walks and promises a treat for all lovers of nature and history.
The Margrave Museum offers insights into the exciting history of the city and its principality, while the baroque old town with its winding streets and historic buildings such as Karlsplatz and Martin-Luther-Platz invite you to stroll through the city and taste the local specialty, the Ansbacher Bratwurst.
The festivities surrounding the inauguration of the Herrieder Tor are not only a reason to celebrate, but also a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors to experience the cultural diversity and history of Ansbach up close. So, let’s go to Ansbach – there’s something happening there!
