Kleinostheim containers in disaster control: rescue for citizens!

The containers from the former refugee accommodation in Kleinostheim have found a new purpose: from now on they are used for disaster control in the Aschaffenburg district. This message comes directly from the local fire departments, who emphasize that the modules previously used as shower and stay containers for refugees from Ukraine are now available for urgent emergencies. The containers were taken over by the Aschaffenburg district and are strategically stored in Schöllkrippen and at the landfill in Stockstadt, ready for use.

The idea of using temporary containers for disaster protection is not only pragmatic, but also shows how important the connection to a flexible infrastructure is in crisis situations. Once activated, these containers can be quickly put back into operation in the event of storms, fires or for evacuation. They can support the emergency services as well as serve as accommodation options for citizens.

Technical requirements and choice of location

Of course, there are a few things to consider when using these containers. The surface on which the containers are placed should be stable, firm and even. The necessary foundations, whether point or strip foundations, must be provided beforehand to ensure proper construction of the containers. Soft surfaces such as sand or grass may also serve as a base if properly prepared. Regardless, the safety of the structure remains a key concern, especially during heavy rainfall that could cause the subsoil to slip, as Conliving explains.

In order to optimally choose a location, it is crucial that it is easily accessible and close to water and electricity supplies as well as medical facilities. Mobile solar systems can also create a self-sufficient infrastructure here. A stable and safe location not only ensures the structural integrity, but also the well-being of the people being accommodated.

A look at the future

Reusing these containers is not only practical, but is also in line with the idea of sustainability. Temporary buildings can be used efficiently for different purposes, be it as accommodation in emergencies, educational institutions or community centers, as Kleusberg explains. In addition, the Building Energy Act (GEG) guarantees requirements that apply to the use of heated or air-conditioned containers. This creates a certain level of comfort for users, especially in long-term use, in addition to safety aspects.

It also shows that the experiences from the initial accommodation of refugees are valuable. These containers, which once served as accommodation for 54 people or up to 120 refugees, can be quickly reactivated to create urgently needed capacity. Good planning is required for such large measures: from safety-related equipment to hygienic conditions and barrier-free accessibility, many factors must be taken into account.

As it turns out, Kleinostheim is well positioned to respond quickly and flexibly to various challenges. Whether as accommodation or in emergencies – the containers are ready when you need them.
