Traffic chaos near Weilbach: Mud Bridge closed from Thursday due to damage!
In Weilbach there will be an important change to traffic on the Mud Bridge from Thursday, June 26, 2025. Due to damage discovered during the last main structural inspection, guide elements will be installed to delimit the roadway area laterally. This became necessary after significant concrete damage was discovered, particularly below the sidewalk areas of the bridge. Miltenberg district reports.
The installation of the guide elements has several goals. On the one hand, the speed on the bridge should be reduced, and on the other hand, an attempt is made to minimize the risk of vehicles driving onto the sidewalk areas or marked restricted areas. The closed areas are currently not accessible to vehicle traffic.
Responsibility for traffic safety
The responsibility for road safety lies in the hands of the municipalities. They are obliged to regularly inspect and maintain bridge structures, as required BGB and DIN 1076 prescribe. This is not just about the safety of road users, but also about the early detection and elimination of defects in order to avoid serious consequences.
Regular inspections are a central element that is intended to ensure the traffic safety and longevity of bridges. Different inspection intervals are adhered to: visual inspections take place annually, main inspections every six years and simple inspections every three years. Special inspections are also necessary if damage occurs. Construction management expertise indicates that all tests must be carried out by qualified testing engineers.
Future of the mud bridge
In order to address the challenges of the Mud Bridge in a sustainable manner, plans for a replacement building and a structural redesign of the junction of the MIL 6 district road with the B 469 are already well advanced. The preliminary draft is to be presented to the Miltenberg district building committee and submitted to the responsible departments for approval. This shows that they have a good knack for keeping the bridge safe for traffic until the new construction is completed.
The Aschaffenburg State Building Authority asks all road users to understand the inevitable disruptions in the coming period. It is to be hoped that the measures will soon present the bridge in better condition and ensure traffic safety in the long term.
